I don't know why people even fly spirit unless you're poor. I like to check a bag, have a drink, etc and I can do that with Southwest if I'm trying to save money. Spirit just sounds like a nightmare to me. I can barely take the open seating on Southwest.
As for the OP, this is disgusting, everyone knows that the airline industry is otherwise known for their top notch customer service!!!

The latter. I only pay upfront for business on special occasions. I've upgraded at check-in tons.

You haven't experienced what it's like to fly out of Port-au-Prince, Haiti until you've flown Spirit Airlines out of Ft Lauderdale on an early Friday morning flight.
I made that mistake in a pinch going to a family wedding in Louisiana. I'll rent a car next time and drive the 14 hours to avoid that flight.
