Aren't a lot of the deaths attributable to a nursing home that is getting blown up? In a small parish a big cluster of deaths like that will really skew the stats.

Yep, a lot of time. No more or less than the rest of the state. That town was devastated by people leaving it to pursue higher education and employment elsewhere in cities with opportunity like most other towns just like it across the state and country. It’s sad what’s happened to a once proud little community.

I also think it’s because a lot of people relocated from NO East following Katrina. They still have roots in NO and therefore are in contact with them frequently which would spread the virus from NO especially before the quarantine. Just my theory.

The whole parish is swamp with the exception of a few towns huddled together on high ground by the River. You throw out the swamp area and I bet the population density is fairly high.

The number of people walking around in Laplace like there is no COVID-19 threat is unbelievable. I live in Laplace and I've had to ask people to step back from me multiple times. The local Home Depot has only recently started limiting the number of people in the store at one time. I'm actually surprised that the positive numbers are not higher. If I had to bet, I'd say that the virus was brought to the parish after Mardi Gras as someone said with the number of people who frequent NOLA due to family.

St. John opened shelters during Katrina. St. James next door did not. Made a lot of difference.
