so why do “renters” pass every tax hike?

what does that have to do with public education

I'm already working on my appeal. I got a 19% increase largely due to increase in land value. And my street is literally caving into the earth.
Of course this pales in comparison to the 47% increase they hit me with in 2020 at the height of the pandemic no less.

I'd appeal too. But keep in mind that property taxes have nothing to do with road maintenance.

Wasn't aware they did. Never saw the data you provided.

Like saying someone shouldn't pay taxes towards road funds (not gas tax) since they don't have a car. They benefit from their existence.
Shouldn't have to pay Entergy surcharge because I didn't lose power during a hurricane

This is interesting because I've watched property values fall for 2 years in Orleans Parish while they increased in Jefferson. Just another lie from a city government of liars.

Too many carpetbaggers from NY and CA buying up the inventory and driving prices up. In my neighborhood (yes here comes a brag) a female Tulane student just moved into a $2 million house her yankee parents bought her. Beats on campus housing I guess.

4 years since last.
19/20/21 rocketed up on Orleans unfortunately.
Personally, my appraisal went up 9.8%, which is less than market. So not sure exactly how I am going to fight it.

Well, the same thing happened 4 years ago (worse actually) and you were around for that. So what does that say about you then?
It means fool me once, shame on you. Food me twice, shame on me.
Y’all are going to end up with property taxes like Texas but with the income tax and shitty roads & schools.

Property values are increasing. Inflation out the arse because of covid policies and everything that followed.
100k lots 5 years ago are selling for 165k now.
I get New Orleans is a shithole, but the prices are there to support the increase. My domicile barely went up while the property value went up a lot.

Look, I'm sure the additional property taxes will be well be spent efficiently and wisely by the city of New Orleans.

I get it but my point is that you’re paying higher property taxes that people often criticize Texas for but without our roads and schools. That sucks.
Posted on 7/18/23 at 7:43 pm to MrLSU
Hey maybe stop voting in Democrats but that's just me maybe they secretly like paying out of their arse and getting nothing in return

Depends on how you look at it and what you get in return.
Im not selling New Orleans as well run or cheap, but the benefits are what you make of them.

You have to be dirt poor, or a multimillionaire, or have brain damage to live in New Orleans.

They were asking 1.2 MILLION in my old neighborhood of Buccaneer Villa North for one house, and there’s another new subdivision coming

Can someone explain how that law works or why the millage rate must go down?
My assesment went up about 11%, but thats after going down post IDA. The net increase since 2020 is only about 5%.
