They obviously found a better bartender when you were away and want your arse out of there

Bartenders usually work at night, when your baby would be sleeping or crying & being fed by the wife. What do you do during your paternity leave? Sit there and stare at the kid?

Tending bar is not really a career, just go find a new job.

I would go work elsewhere. Plenty of places seeking a good bartender.

They trying to and will fire you because you took leave. Best thing to do is line something else up job wise then lawyer up when they fire you.

Find something more stable. You have a kid now. You can’t realistically bartend forever.

How can a bartender afford to take 2 weeks off, especially with a new baby?

This was also my first shift back from paternity leave. My wife and I just had our first baby two weeks ago.

Has anyone had something like this happen to them?

Sue them for violating the Family Medical Leave Act

This is what’s going on. They can’t fire you for paternity leave but they want to, so they’re concocting a legitimate reason to fire you.

I know right. How could he possibly have a little savings stashed so he can spend some time with his newborn child? He's only a bartender. Some real elitists on a LA message board.

Depending on the bar bartenders make hundreds of dollars a night in tips… I am not surprised he had some saving.

My company gives 8 weeks off which can be taken however you want to divide it up through the first year. Or you can take 2 weeks pay. I already have 4 weeks vacation and have a pretty flexible schedule so never even use that. I just took the pay even though it's not truly equal to 8 weeks off. If a company is going to give you paid leave, why wouldn't you take it.

I don't think he said it was paid. Could be FMLA eligible though.

I do know some bartenders that made pretty good money on tips. Depends on the bar and the type of people who go there

Guy in Starkville I know made over 70k a year being a bartender in a college town. Paid his college and he kept doing it for a few years after graduating
