Looks like the OP ran over a knife. Nobody stabs a tire in the tread do they? Awkward positioning. Makes more sense to stab it in the sidewall. Plus the part sticking out looks pretty beat up, like it's been driven on.

I could throw a knife on the ground and run over it multiple times and I guarantee it wouldn't stab into my tire. Might cut up the tread but no way it would penetrate.
