Why is it so hard for some people to say black lives matter and do it without feeling like their life or race is being marginalized? I've been guilty of it at times

Because BL only matter when killed by a cop. A black man is 625x more likely to be killed by another black man than one of the 5-10 questionable cop killings.

who says it isn't?

the way slavery is portrayed one would think African slaves only came to America...5% of the African slaves came to America.

It's still very much an open wound for this country

the wound had a good scab over it 30-40 yrs ago and some people keep ripping it off...usually time heals wounds but with time this one gets worse and worse...almost like it's being used as a crutch

No whats fricking dumb is being so obtuse as to think since it doesn't affect me it's not a real issue. But what you don't understand is that it does affect you. Bigly. Turn on the news. Tucker Carlson stated it perfectly when he said BLM is now the most powerful political party in this country. They are making things happen without all the legal red tape. Cities are defending and fundamentally changing their police departments because BLM said do it. Surely you can see this is affecting you right.

It’s simply multiple choice racism powered by disingenuous people.

You know what I have the biggest problem with? It's the fact that all my damn life I've been taught again and again that we should observe MLK's message and try to live it as best as possible. Decades of laws we were told were to follow MLK's message were made. We accepted them because MOST whites were brought up with sayings like we all bleed the same color blood and we're all people. It turns out that we're the only race actually believing to judge a person by the content of their character instead of their color.

Maybe if whites didn’t murder Dr King. His words would mean something.

For most, yes. You however, cast the blame.

Lol, it's not being obtuse, it's that I don't give a frick about idiots, white or black, that want to dwell on the sins of the past. It doesn't have shite to do with me. And frick the news, too, you would be better off not watching that slime ooze across your living room floor.

Slavery has no impact on people living today or the last 50 years. Personal choice is what has mattered for the last 5 decades.

I don't give a frick how any black feels about slavery, they never experienced it, they don't even have family that has experienced it. Null and void to me

Guilty of admitting the truth? Dude, virtually every race has at some point in its history has been enslaved to another race. Get over it.

It has to remain in the rotation of the blame game. It has to be twisted in order to fit the narrative of whatever flavor of racism is on tap for today.

What do you think when you read this:

Of all private U.S. agricultural land, Whites account for 96 percent of
the owners, 97 percent of the value, and 98 percent of the acres.

What language do black people speak? When did they learn that language? What kind of food do black people eat? You say soul food I’ll say slave food. What about the last names of black people? Those are slave master names. I would go into the consciousness of black people but that’s too deep for this forum, and that’s just slavery.

Then you have Jim Crow Era, lynchings, Civil rights fight, years of police brutality, and the war on drugs. Stop acting like once slavery ended everybody was equal. Whites terrorized blacks and black families that’s the history of America. Stop picking what history to glorify and what history to ignore.

I think this is kind of getting away from what I intended by focusing on BLM the movement. That's why I specifically said black lives in the title and not Black Lives Matter. But that's to be expected on the OT. We start threads and they go where the OT takes them.

I will say based on the comments here (excluding the sophomoric clowning) race and slavery are still a major hot button issue for this country. In general the majority of people commenting don't want to hear about it anymore. It's in the past, move on and if you're not where you want to be in life it's your own fault.

Seems incredibly simplistic. And probably why it's still an issue for the black community as a whole. And also why the problem isn't going to magically go away. Whether some people think it's a problem or not.
Someone asked, who long till we get past it? Whats the time frame? I think it's not a matter of time, but a matter of understanding.

The last few comments didn't even bump the thread off the 2nd page.

I don't think the thread was devolving into a ban fest... Must be some other reason for hiding it.
