I did princeton review prep. Was a waste other than the practice tests done in a realistic testing environment.
Id just buy some practice tests online

Congrats DeltaTiger14!! It's such a relief to see your child's work get rewarded thru an acceptance.
My son is in year 1 of LSU Med School New Orleans. He is happy, loves the courses and is doing well. He applied early decision and learned of his acceptance in Sept 2019 so he thoroughly enjoyed his Sr Year at Alabama, despite the lackluster finish due to covid. He chose UA for the scholarship which allowed him to save his 529 for med school.
As for the poster who asked about MCAT prep courses, he took an on line (Kaplan I think) boot camp between semesters his junior year. He took the MCAT in January, liked his score, and didn't have to spend that semester prepping. Instead he had a good time living in his fraternity house and doing all of the social events.

Congratulations!
For the poster asking about test prep, I did the Kaplan online self-prep for my MCAT this year and I achieved my target score. The Kaplan prep is mostly for content review, and their test taking tips and strategies didn't help me much. The AAMC (people who administer the test) have a comprehensive test prep that is very good and is almost a must buy. At least buy the 4 sample tests. The AAMC material was the test prep that improved my score the most. They have hundreds of questions that are structured just like the exam. If your son wants to get the Kaplan prep, also consider just buying the prep books separately. The extra stuff online is mostly videos explaining verbatim the chapters in the prep books. I have no personal experience with any of the in-person preps. But it is very important to know where his weak spots are so he can determine what prep is best for him. He will probably need some type of books for content review, and it really boils down to his preference and whether he thinks it'll help him improve his score.
Here is the link to the AAMC store. I got the online-only bundle and used it 24/7 in the weeks leading up to my test. Typically the AAMC content is used after content review is finished. MCAT Prep AAMC

Are you Jewish? "My son, the doctor" doesn't sound the same without a Jewish accent.
Congrats.
Reminds me of the story of the first Jewish President of the United States. During the inauguration, his mother leans over to the lady next to her and says “his brother is a doctor “.

UMC has a great program. The advantage comes in the 3rd and 4th years. Due to being the Level 1 trauma center in MS, you are exposed to a lot. You are also given the autonomy to do a lot.
There are some world class attending physicians in the residency programs as well.
Tell him, once he’s in 3rd year to be a do-er. Don’t wait to be told or asked...when comfortable, do it.

Congrats to him for his hard work. He has a hard decade ahead but it is worth every bit of it.
My wife and I (got married in medical school) would not dream of doing anything else as a career.
Don’t let people discourage him. The hassles of medicine are minor compared to the rewards.

Everyone already knows becoming a doctor is all about who you know anyway

I personally found the prep courses to be a waste. Not that you can't glean useful tips from them, but I don't think it's worth the $1500-2000 or whatever they're charging for it these days. Plenty of free or cheaper resources online
It depends on if you are self-motivated or not. I am not self motivated and needed to take the class to force myself to study. People who are very disciplined and self-motivated can just buy the books online and learn the material on their own.
