Check the engine throttle spring(s).
The engine should have one or two. They can come unhooked or sprung if you catch them on a branch, etc.

Any ideas?
Just pay illegals to cut your grass. It’s a lot easier. Trust me.

Do you have a way to check compression? Might have cracked a ring.

Had same problem. Did all carb stuff, cleaned finally replaced. Took to small engine guy he couldn't fix so like Rex went and bought new. 1 mow in and not having the problem. I can keep you posted if you want.

Try a coat hanger……(to clean out the carb)

Cleaned the air filter this morning and tried running it without the filter installed, no change.
Still starts right up, just has like half the power. Wedged a screwdriver in and pushed the throttle open more with no change.
Think it's time for a new one sadly.

If the engine isn't getting gas it could be the gas cap. Seriously. (especially if it's old)

Good job troubleshooting the issue. Very baw-ish of you to keep at it. I was following this thread.

I would check to see if your Johnson Rod is bent.

I run this shite exclusively and have never had an issue.

Another possible cause for this problem....
If your blade had hit a root, this could have partiality damaged the flywheel key throwing the timing off.
Glad you found the spring problem. Most problems are easy fixes. The hard part is finding the problem.

There nothing wrong with ethanol in small engines. The issues is if they set for any length of time.
