Hint: Its an emergency backup generator, it doesn't HAVE to run all your ACs.

Yea but I want one to run as much as possible otherwise it seems like a waste.

It's Monday morning and I work from home. It's not just about no heat.

You were bragging about some slum you built in the early 2000s in a thread where you said a house in the middle of the ghetto in Alexandria was a fine starter home

Go to a coffee shop then.

You’re so insufferable you’re making people knight for energy. Think about that

I wish we had options in Louisiana.

Not all it's cracked up to be. Even deregulated retail markets have to deal with a deregulated grid operator.

I never bragged about some slum I built.

I did build a few subdivisions but none were slums.

One neighborhood all the houses I built had 10' ceilings so that like 12' to you.

I didn't know how much I needed either. The generator salesman told me how much I needed.

It turned out we needed 28 KW generator to run everything after he measured all of our appliances and circuits.

You can always make do with a smaller generator if you just remember not to run everything simultaneously such as the AC, dryer, electrical stove top, oven and any other appliance that has a 240v power requirement.

Now when Entergy fails, our lights blink off for about 5 seconds, the generator comes on automatically and we're back on.

waste is spending. $30k on whole house when used for emergencies. I have a 10kw tri fuel that I hook up to home natural gas and switch over manually. Saved us from freezing in this 1955 style above ground no fireplace home. Window unit for summer works fine for several hours or even days and I have two.

Yea I get that and that's what my neighbor did. He went cheap and said he wish he hadn't so I was going off what he said. He said he would get a whole home unit if he could go back.

3 hours to finally show up and assess the damage on one of the coldest days of the year is unacceptable. Now the power will be off until 12 at the earliest they said.

Whats your expectation here?

Is it possible the equipment required to replace the pole needed to be delivered for work to start? ETR has insight to failures before they inspect on site.

Fairly typical occurrence unfortunately, extreme weather stresses the system. They want the meters running if they can.

Nobody likes to be without power, a modern convenience we take for granted. Hope it gets back up for you ASAP.

I will say my power doesn't go out for long periods often. The 5 years I lived here the longest was about 8 hours because a car took out a pole. I'm about to go drive to get some coffee and see if the same thing happened

I just didn't think it would take 3 hours before a crew shows up. Seems inefficient

Based on what? Other than that’s what you “think.”

If you don’t have heat pumps or electric water heaters, a regular 20kW would work just fine. Have them install a load management system (prevents overloading) or put soft starters on all your units. My parents have about 10 tons worth of HVAC and their 24kW Honeywell can handle it all with start kits on them.

If you have heat pumps (with resistive heating) or electric water heaters (again, high electrical power consumption) you’d likely need something bigger. If your only concern is the AC, you can reduce the startup current for each unit.

If you need me to do a load calculation for you I can shoot you an email.

That's why I heat my house with a wood burning stove. Nice constant temp and I don't have to rely on anyone but myself.

That's a bit Karen-ish.

Nobody "froze" in LC without electricity for a few hours today.

Just curious, does your 12 ton air conditioned house not have a fireplace?
