I hated when my Dad got too old to fly (though at 93 I'm sure he could probably still fly - he flew in WWII, Korea and Vietnam). It was nice to be able to call and say "come pick up the grandsons" and he'd be there in a couple of hours. He had a 172 - nice safe plane.

There is a YouTube video which is just audio of a female pilot in similar conditions with tubes icing over. It is pretty chilling. She totally loses her shite for 3-5 minutes. Of course barrel rolling in a little plane like that must make your arse beyond pucker.
No terrain issues though. She got below freezing précip altitude and landed safely. But again for 3 minutes or so that woman knew she was dying.

One of my dad's friends was killed in a small plane crash when I was a kid. We lived out in the country so my dad agreed to let them dump the scraps of the plane on our property. There was still dried up blood on it. Pretty creepy.

I've heard that audio. She was a FedEx pilot flying a small Cessna Caravan. She continued onto her final destination like a boss. There's another female FedEx pilot who crashed outside of Montreal on some railroad tracks. The plane wasn't even recognizable.

I know. Why not just get that fricker on the ground? When she regained control and got the altitude she needed to thaw out they gave her multiple options. She was like "nah". Went from screaming in terror to "got places to be".
