I am not a sophomore in aerospace engineering at Auburn, but what you built there was a plastic pipe bomb, not a rocket. You keep going down this road and you will be on an FBI watch list!

Written for people who aren't rocket engineers, "Amateur Rocket Motor Construction" teaches the reader how to make real solid fuel rocket motors with simple tools and easy-to-find materials. Richly illustrated with more than 600 photos and drawings, this incredible 8-1/2 x 11, 528 page book contains everything you need to know to make 5 homemade rocket fuel formulas and 54 proven and tested rocket motor designs.

at first I thought this was a joke but you're right, it in no way resembles a rocket, and pretty primitive at whatever he was trying to do, but he's keeping up the charade, war eagle, I guess

Uh, Thiokol in Utah tests their SRBs in a similar manner...horizontally.
Do they just use more bricks to hold theirs down?

Where did you get the potassium nitrate?

Not to be a pessimist here, but...
You know there are laws that regulate this kind of stuff, right?
I get you wanna make your own but it seems like you're not utilizing the full (or any) potential of the internet here.
First, buy that book someone linked to earlier. I owned it years ago and it's a great resource.
Next, join a rocket club. They're everywhere and I'm sure there's one in/around auburn.
Then get on the net and do some research.
This is a good place to start.
Trying to build your own rocket motor from scratch out of pvc seems like a really bad idea when there are so many resources out there to help.
Then one day you can build something like this.

I'd study materials in physics or ME if I wanted to go into aerospace. I work in the industry and I still don't really understand what that degree (AE) gets you. It almost never fails, it all hinges on what the materials folk say.

You need the Stennis Space Center facilities to test your engines.

Join a rocketry club if there's one in your area. Some of them are pretty damn serious and send rockets over 100k feet up. Takes FAA approval and such.

Holy shite I thought you were kidding until I googled "Samson launch site"
Samson is a dump. Meet me at Mcinnis Vet and we can fight. No pipe bombs allowed though.
