SIAP but this could be something worse.
My mother went through a period of time doing shite like this, we all thought she was just a thoughtless selfish bitch, but in hindsight it was the beginning stages of dementia. Dementia doesn't always present itself in obvious ways early on, people can still appear "sharp as a tack" and have full time jobs and drive without getting lost, and carry on sophisticated conversations and appear completely healthy, mentally, except that some behaviors will seem selfish and rude.
It is especially easy for men to go undiagnosed.

That's what I'm thinking. Tyga says they've enjoyed a good relationship over the years so why would he be doing this shite now, out of the blue? Sounds like the things he's doing are just dumbass things to do, not especially spiteful. Maybe you, or your wife, ask your MIL if he's ok?
That said, the lawn thing is completely unacceptable. That's either a lot of work or a lot of money to repair and you need to confront him over that to make sure he squares up with you, Tyga.

I just saw your thread and am sorry I missed it all day. I have a question about the cat. He goes out, leaves the door open, and lets the cat out. You are sleeping. Does he come in, wake you, and tell you to get up and go search for the cat? Why didn't he do it?
You need to explain to him that his actions are of great concern to all of you. Tell him that almost burning down your house cooking, the inability to shut a door and letting the cat out, waking the whole house in the middle of the night, declining ability to drive,and roaming the house, messing up your desk, are all clearly signs of early onset dementia.
Tell him you will begin looking, after the new year, for a suitable nursing home since his declining ability to function as an adult is so worrisome.
If he objects, tell him it is either dementia, or mild retardation causing it, and that either way, his lack of ability to function around those you love must be addressed.
He will immediately begin to mind his manners and act like there are others he is co-existing with. Plus, he will not come back next year.

deeprig may have nailed it. If he’s left the door open and drove in the yard, there may be a much bigger issue going on than him just wanting to prove you’re a bitch
