Since the day we got her, she goes to her bowl, grabs a piece of food, runs into the living room, eats it, and runs back to bowl, repeats.

I'm guessing this is from competition with other dogs (siblings) when she was young?

Does your dog do this?

That's how I act when talking to girls at the bar.

Yes, the exact same thing. Gets the food out of the bowl in the kitchen and drops it on the rug in the living room

He’s not an alpha, doesn’t eat at the kill.

Yeah mine used to do it a lot more when she was younger but randomly does it now. It may have to do something with competition or protection when they were younger because I did get her from a shelter.
She also doesn't eat unless I'm at home which I guess is some type of protection thing but who knows.

Our chorkie, that had numerous siblings, does this even though he is by himself now. I think it’s a competition thing.

Bring the bowl in the living room for a test. I'm thinking he/she may just want to be in the same room as you.

My last dog would pick up her bowl and carry it into the living room to eat. I miss her.

Yep. All the time. He takes pieces by our table to eat or to our bedroom. He very rarely will eat at his bowl.

My dog eats in his bowl, but absolutely won’t take a bite of it unless one of us is home with him.

Can’t feed him as I’m walking out the door in the morning. Gotta do it before my shower.

My Australian Shepherd does this. Pretty sure he's trying to piss my wife off......

My dog does the same thing but she was a rescue who spent her first year of life living as a scavenger.

My dog will do this if I’m in the living room. He grabs a mouthful, drops it near me, then eats. Does that til it’s empty. It’s weird.

Sometimes if he hasn’t eaten all day I’ll sit on the kitchen floor with him and he will eat.

My basset does this. Gets a mouthful of dry food from his bowl and drops it elsewhere. He scatters food everywhere around our place. Thought this was behavior unique to him, but I see from this thread it isn’t. He’s otherwise not food aggressive and has been raised entirely as an only dog.
