Pay all vet bills

If dog still dies, your dog has to go. Don't care about past. Your dog is too dangerous

My mom knows them. She rents their beach house every year from the wife. They stay next door. The beach is dog friendly and my dog has played with the wife's Labradors countless times

Thats good, if he was a psycho you would have known long ago. In the future just be sure to keep him away from little dogs. Now just pay this dudes and lie to him about your dog, he can't MAKE you kill your dog.

He is obviously fine with them, I meant other peoples dogs. I wouldn't sweat it but I would just be super careful with him in the future.

To be clear, not suggesting you would fail to do so, just listing postive steps you can take to manange the other owners in a situations that sucks for all parties.

Killing your dog is not the answer unless you decide the dog is a severe enough risk. You, not him, not FL.

I'm not a lawyer ,but you are legally liable for any damage that your dog cause if your dog didn't seem threatened.

1) How badly is the other dog injured? You should offer to pay for any injuries.

2) Did the owner of the other dog allow the dogs to play together?

Does anyone know if a dog would be put down as a result of a lawsuit like this? Id imagine they wouldn't because hes not considered a dangerous breed nor does he have a history of violence. Seems more like a question of How much money you are on the hook for. You probably owe more money if you went through courts.

did anyone see how it happened? a wiener dog can get snappy especially if a bigger dog is playing with it and it feels threatened, even if the bigger dog is just playing. your dog may have just reacted to the smaller dogs aggression.

I have been through a similar situation with my dachshund many years ago with a german shepherd. it attacked my dog in my yard and gave him a few stitches. couples of years later the same dog killed my dog.

This needs to be turned into a 60 minutes documentary.

I can imagine that old fricker hyping it now.

It was a beautiful day in the panhandle, a small quiet beach town. What happened there that day though was far from ordinary, oh no. Before the end of the day there would be Daschsund devastation and the local sheriff had a mystery on his hands.

All the while you're at the T.V. yelling IT WAS THE frickING WIRED HAIR POINTER COME ON. He's right there covered in blood, right there man!

The dog had a nice rip in it's neck area. It's in critical condition last I heard

2) yes they were allowed to play together. As I've said, the wife has let her other dogs play with mine for about 5 years now every January, he just met the Daschsund last night(they got along). Something triggered him today, not sure what.

If this happened in Florida and your dog is now home in Louisiana, I don't think they can do shite about it.

I'd pay the vet bills and tell them sorry, but I'm not putting my dog down for aforementioned reasons. Put the ball back in there court. I don't think anything can be done at this point. I seriously don't see cops wasting time and money to bring the dog to Florida. It is just an animal....

Some advice, you probably shouldn't allow any future dogs to be around that german shepherd or be left unattended in the open.

Just a feeling I'm getting.

Neither were leashed. Both owners mutually agree to let their dogs interact

Describe "mutually agree"

Precisely on what property did this occur?
