Wouldn't you want the exact same thing if you were the other owner?

If my dog was hurt in the same circumstances as this incident, no, I wouldn't want the other dog killed. Pay the vet bill, yes. As other posters have said, I'd be more concerned about the well being of my own dog at this point.

If a dog attacked my family member, particularly a child, that would be a different story.

I don't believe the study specified which type of Dachshund - long or short haired. You probably know more about the differences between them since you own both. I've been around a handful of short hairs, and while they were incredibly obedient & loyal to their owners, they also seemed over protective of them & aggressive toward strangers. I truly thought one was going to bite me when I reached for a glass of wine its owner was handing me.

I agree with you, though. I'd be more worried about my own pet than trying to get some form of revenge which wouldn't help anything. In fact, it would probably just make the situation worse. Hopefully, the Dachshund will be ok, and the owner will reconsider his stance on having the other euthanized.

This. Offer to pay their vet bills and they shouldn't care about your dog after that.

I didn't read the whole thread but it sounds like the victim's owner should have not bought such a pussy dog

Yea it's a couple. My mom is friends with the wife, she's met the husband in passing. It's a vacation home so he's not always there. They live in Tenn

Anyway they think the dog will survive. One of it's more serious injuries is a fractured nose

And my dog has actually played with this dog before. I had thought they met last night but they've interacted the last 2 vacations.

They thought the Daschsund was gonna die a few weeks ago come to find out. But it has just started to feel better evidently

A little clarification on how it went down. It's a two story home and my mom was in their front yard with my dog and her 2 other little dogs. She was talking to her friend on the 2nd floor. Her friends says "so and so(Daschsund) wants to come say hi!"...

So she let the dog out and down the steps into the yard where the incident happened

Les, there is nothing they can do legally to make you put your dog to sleep, based on what you've said. I wouldn't worry about that. I would let them know you will take care of all the vet bills and that you're concerned about their dog. Once the emotions settle down, hopefully their anger will pass. And just make sure to keep the dogs separated in the future.

Hope everything works out.

FWIW, there is most likely coverage under the liability portion of your homeowner's policy that would cover the vet bills if they pursue a civil claim against you.

No shite ! I am guessing it will be AT LEAST $2500, that's what I paid just for one surgery, but probably closer to $4000.
