Most ignorant post I believe I have ever read. I have two and they are as sweet, mild mannered and loyal of any dog I've ever had.

As for the OP..I am so sorry to hear about your predicament. As the owner of a 15 year old daschsund, it's kind of hard for me to be objective, honestly. I feel your pain, though. Hopefully the owner is just reacting out of hurt and disbelief over the state of their pet right now and maybe cooler heads will prevail after they've had a chance to reflect on this. In any case, I wish you luck and you're definitely in my thoughts.

I hear it's awesome. Are there a lot of water restrictions in Arizona? I've never been there.

from FL statutes

Title XLV. Torts. Chapter 767. Damage by Dogs.

767.01. Dog owner's liability for damages to persons, domestic animals, or livestock

Owners of dogs shall be liable for any damage done by their dogs to a person or to any animal included in the definitions of "domestic animal" and "livestock" as provided by s. 585.01.

_________________________________

(1) “Dangerous dog” means any dog that according to the records of the appropriate authority:

(a) Has aggressively bitten, attacked, or endangered or has inflicted severe injury on a human being on public or private property;

(b) Has more than once severely injured or killed a domestic animal while off the owner's property; or

(c) Has, when unprovoked, chased or approached a person upon the streets, sidewalks, or any public grounds in a menacing fashion or apparent attitude of attack, provided that such actions are attested to in a sworn statement by one or more persons and dutifully investigated by the appropriate authority.

____________________

so my guess is that the owner of wiener dog will file report with animal control authority to note that Les' dog did such an act. If it were to happen again, and my guess is that it will never happen again, Les' dog would be considered a "dangerous animal."
_______________________________________

now if something happened for a third time...

767.13. Attack or bite by dangerous dog; penalties; confiscation; destruction

(1) If a dog that has previously been declared dangerous attacks or bites a person or a domestic animal without provocation, the owner is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. In addition, the dangerous dog shall be immediately confiscated by an animal control authority, placed in quarantine, if necessary, for the proper length of time, or impounded and held for 10 business days after the owner is given written notification under s. 767.12, and thereafter destroyed in an expeditious and humane manner. This 10-day time period shall allow the owner to request a hearing under s. 767.12. The owner shall be responsible for payment of all boarding costs and other fees as may be required to humanely and safely keep the animal during any appeal procedure.

Do you mean for residential? If so there are ZERO water restrictions as far as I know, I have never heard anything about it.

ETA: it is awesome. If you want to live around a bunch of successful, good looking white people there is no better place to live.

yes. i noted that in my previous post

dog will not be put down. it is protected under the law

now Les could fight for comparative negligence, but it appears that his family has a relationship with these people. might not be worth the potential fallout.

Probably not. However, in my opinion, someone who wants me to put my dog down over something like this is not a person I want to call a friend.

Either way, the relationship between both parties will most likely be scarred, which is sad. After all, they're only dogs.

LINK Dachshund most aggressive breed according to university study

quote:

In fact, the top three, are in order — dachshund, chihuahua and Jack Russell terrier.

quote:

A researcher who worked on the study, Dr. James Serpell, says that smaller breeds may have a genetic predisposition towards aggressive behavior than larger dogs.

"Reported levels of aggression in some cases are concerning, with rates of bites or bite attempts rising as high as 20 per cent toward strangers and 30 percent toward unfamiliar dogs.," he noted.

Your dog was most probably provoked and just reacted instinctively as animals do.

Location, location location!!! That is all that matters when it comes to real estate. I mean....you could buy a 4000 sq ft house in like South Chandler for the same price as 2000 sq ft in Scottsdale but what's the point. Big houses are a pain in the arse anyways IMO. There is so much to clean, the electric bills are $700 in the summer etc. 2000 sq ft is PLENTY for the 2 of you!!!

I would be interested to know if it were a short haired or a long haired doxie that was injured (I hesitate to use the word "attacked" bc the behavior/reaction may have been provoked). It seems short hairs are much more aggressive than their long hair counterparts for some reason. Even with my two, the short hair took a much, much longer time to train whereas the long hair seemed to just be naturally laid back and relaxed.

I know that I would be more concerned with my dog's health than ending the life of another dog had that been my dog involved. I would never want another family pet euthanized..it is just cruel and unnecessary. Dogs fight...it's in their nature. We, as pet owners, know that and should be prepared should they revert to instinctive behavior vs. trained behavior. I really hope the owner of the doxie rethinks his stance.
