He grew up on a small farm The family was very poor no TV , no phone , no car. Dad is on home Hospice ( cancer) and the youngest of nine children. Most of his siblings had left home when he was drafted He said he was working in the garden along with two of my aunts and my grandma , when a car pulled up when two men with army uniforms stepped out . He said my grandma went to her knees and started crying. They told him congratulations he had just been drafted. He served in the Korean War. They gave two days to get his affairs together and get to boot camp. He had never been out of Louisiana and had just turned 18. He never talks about what happened over there just says that it was hell .

Thanks to your dad for serving. Really cool story. Reminds me of when my grandfathers talked about their experiences in the wars.

I wish more kids today were forced into some form of military service. Perhaps they wouldn't be eating Tide Pods and needing safe spaces if they knew what it was like to go to boot camp.

Sorry to hear about your pop’s situation.

I’m one of five kids, my pops saved his Okinawa stories for me alone on his deathbed.

Not good.

“To better days.”

And 18 year olds today need "safe spaces."

Pathetic.

He did tell me that the Turks were the toughest men he had ever met. He said they were in a bar and that some Turks were in . He said they carried these bayonets , well one of my dads army buddies ask one of the Turks could he see it. The Turk said sure. My dads friends looks at it and hands it back and then this Turk cuts his own hand with it. Dad and his buddies where like what the hell? Then they explained that if that bayonet was pulled there must be blood on it. He said those were some guys that no one messed with

Holy cow. I visited a farm when I was 12. This really hits close to home.

Korea was pure hell. The number of men the Chinese threw at us defies logic . Look at their loses . They say 450K probably closer to a million . We should have nuked the commies

Fortunately for the pussy 18 year old wimps America is full of now, trench warfare should be a thing of the past.
So, you little shits can go on whining about the number of"likes" your Facebook posts receive and other travesties in your sheltered lives.

Really unfortunate the OP couldn’t work in a Tidepod to his story. Maybe you would have felt more included.

Yet thousands VOLUNTEER every year and many come back in body bags or significantly disfigured/disabled. There are strong and weak in every generation, the current young adult one as well.

There was a draft from 1940 until 1973.

Doesn't matter.

There is a significant portion of the OT that will do nothing but denigrate entire portions of certain demographics.

There are good and bad people everywhere, but these baws remain ignorant of the world around them.
