I've had bad days at work. I've had incredibly shitty days at work. I've never had "Jump out of an airplane without a parachute and splatter my innards all over a neighborhood" days at work.

co-pilot got up and jumped out of the back of the aircraft, which was missing a main landing gear wheel and was about to attempt an emergency landing, without a parachute and was likely dead

Wait a second, I know this reaction. This has public shart written all over it.

No big deal, I've literally had thousands of people jump out of my airplane.

He did have a parachute, didn't he?

Sounds to me like he was checking the landing gear and got sucked out.

Can the door be opened by the pilot? Is it possible the pilot opened the door with the jumper not suspecting he was going to open it?

I guess it's possible, but it opens slowly. Not like it snaps open, lol

Would be funnier if it was a trap door.

Imagine jumping out and then realizing what was about to happen. Whether 3 seconds or minutes that fall you’ve gotta be saying to yourself.

I’m a dumbass and this shite is gonna hurt

The story just gets stranger.
quote:

A co-pilot who reportedly jumped to his death from a small airplane in North Carolina last month was upset over damaging the craft’s landing gear during a failed runaway approach earlier in the day, according to a National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report released Tuesday Charles Hew Crooks, 23, was quickly identified as the aircraft's co-pilot after the incident on July 29, which unfolded about 30 miles south of Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The plane’s pilot in command told federal investigators that Crooks "became visibly upset about the hard landing" in the minutes after they diverted to another airport for an emergency landing, the report stated.

just based on what I've read in this thread the kid seemed mentally unstable and probably should not have been in the cockpit of an airplane to start with

Guys, why isn't the landing gear working?

- Because I broke the landing gear!
