When I first heard, thought he may have opened the door to check the wheel, but sounds like he just jumped.

a fella could get killed doing that.

By all means, let’s go down the rabbit hole

Man took fight or flight response to a new level.

Solid cover for if he threw the guy out of the plane.
There were other people on board to witness, right? Although it might have been a group decision.

That’s nuts. First of all surprised it would be that easy to do. Also I remember reading about this when it happened and was confused how the landing gear problem fit in. Like did he somehow hit the landing gear when he jumped but this sounds like it was an existing landing gear problem.

Then the guy from Texas shouted "Remember the Alamo!" And threw out the Mexican.

Of course, there has to be some oddly plausible reason. Either he was attempting to fix the landing gear, found out his wife was cheating on him, or the pilot found out he was cheating on him with the jumper. Something will come up in the investigation.

Used to know a veteran who tried to bail out of a sputtering helicopter. Someone pulled him away from the door.
When they landed safely, someone asked him "Where's your parachute?"

Maybe Jenny from “Forrest Gump” had given him the same tight spot advice she gave to Gump?

Can someone explain the geometry of the doors and landing gear viewing points better? What did they hope to accomplishing by opening the rear door? How is the plane to be configured while opening the door? Does the configuration match the adsb data?
This isn’t a situation with the pilot pushing on stuck Cessna Cardinal or 210 landing gear from the luggage hatch with a tow bar.

What's the scariest event you experienced while flying during your career?
Posted on 8/9/22 at 1:27 pm to GeauxxxTigers23
quote:Damn. Could have been Paul Gervase's backyard.
The body of Charles Hew Crooks, who was co-piloting the flight, was found in a Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, backyard on Saturday — one day after the incident.
An unidentified family told WRAL that they were home and heard a loud thud in their backyard on Friday. Although they didn't see anything at the time, police showed up and later found the pilot's body in the trees of their backyard.

Those passengers are so screwed out of their food and beverage service.

It was a Casa! He knew the odds and took them!
I love the casualness of the captain. They must have been best buds...
Personally I've run out of and up the back of the 727 air stairs and many a ATR cargo door trying to catch my commuter flight home (all pre-911), but they were all on the ground.
