He's technically right. Saudis that were given safe harbor in Afghanistan and Pakistan were responsible for September 11th.

The Afghans themselves were not.

While not directly responsible, the Taliban allowed the attackers refuge.

What did he think the Army does. We train to kill our enemies, not have cookies and milk with them.

Did you serve? If not you have no room to call anyone else a coward.

That makes the Taliban guilty. OBL had already attacked the embassies, which are legally US soil.

i would think most people are afraid whether they admit it or not. nowadays we send our young men to die when it isn't necessary.

soldiers are paid by folks not in the military. they work for us. i would not want to go in to any of the U.S. current locations because I don't believe we are justified in being there.

I applaud him for realizing he wasn’t cut out for it before he ended up getting his friends’ killed in combat. People using words like “coward” are no doubt the biggest pussies in real life.

I didn't know you can just quit. I think he would get a dishonorable discharge (anyone know)? That stays with you the rest of your life.

Probably already answered but I’m not reading through six pages. What do you mean by “dropped out”? Do you mean he told his chain of command that the army wasn’t for him. He asked to be released and they eventually released him? Or he just went awol?

Dishonorable Discharge (RE-4) is due to bad conduct. Failure to adapt is usually General, but under honorable conditions (RE-2).

Unless it's under 180 days and they get an ELS.

As a veteran, who is older now, I would take the whole situation as awkward and would not comment nor interfere in any way, nor give my opinion unless the young man who quit asked me. Even then, I would not be judgmental with the kid, as he is going to have to live with his decision for the rest of his life.

When I was maybe 25 years younger, I probably would have been an a-hole about it.

The Army is better off without him.

I should know this because my parents were in the military but how do you “drop out”? Go AWOL?

When you're still in initial entry training you can more or less quit and they'll just separate you for failure to adapt. They don't really advertise that for obvious reasons.

eta- entry level separation is the term I was searching for. From what I've heard it's just like you've never joined at all.

He’s not a coward just a pussy.

Literally millions of people have done what he now won’t do. Are all those people just that much better than him? I guess so.

Since we don't know all information required to make an informed comment...

If he was in Basic...FAR better then than later on, no need to waste any more money on training him...

This isn't the draft army, but a volunteer force...part of Basic these days is to weed those out who can't/don't want to fit in...

I severed 20 years... regardless if he's a coward or just a plain ol' quitter, or whatever, everyone involved is better off now that later on.

Wish more women would call it like that vice hanging on and making two (or more) lives miserable.
