Geez, when I was a kid I used to look forward to playing bourre with my maternal grandparents and parents on Christmas and Thanksgiving (both are gone now). We would play a nickel a hand and either bourre the pot or quarter a bourre.

I cherish those memories.

I find it crazy that no casino has tried to monetize the card game and standardize the game. It would be fun.

This is a weird request because they are really dudes. You want me to post pics of my male cousins?

If you do call the cops, don't go deer hunting with your brother in law... ever

True story, I got suspended in high school for two days for running a craps game in one of my classes. Crybaby rich kid told on me for taking his money.

When I was twelve living in Virginia, I rode in my first foxhunt (tally ho type). It was really cold and are veterinarian, who was a member of the hunt, offered me a swig out of his flask of Brandy. When I hesitated, he looked at me and said if you're old enough to foxhunt you're old enough to drink. So, I took a swig.

I taught my son when he was 7 and 15 years later, he has become quite the player. He doesn’t have a gambling problem and loves the game.

I'll "raise" what I said earlier to the OP and be more specific...

I played "Setback" with my Dad, Grandfather, Great Aunts, Great Uncles, Uncles, Older Cousins for money starting at about 7-8 and played as long as they were able for years. They cursed, they drank, and they smoked so I was around second hand smoke, oh the horrors.

Now this was in "the country" when we would visit my grandparents' place frequently growing up, out in the boonies a bit. I absolutely loved every aspect of this though. It drew me closer to my family, it taught me many things, they learned to respect my game, I observed ways I didn't want to act by drinking too much, smoking, etc...myself, I wound up never smoking, seldom drinking, not much of a gambler, pretty straight laced BUT I YEARN to have one last game with my family that has since passed. I miss those days. They were care-free, fun, happy times.

You raise your kids right and a bit of vice type fun won't matter. A few games of cards wagering a few bucks can teach a lot...but if the kid is well grounded from proper upbringing, they will just learn some and be just fine down the road with good memories just like I have now from growing up. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything!
