Help the kid out. What does your brother drinking or a dui have to do with you being a cheap puss y?
Im suprised your wife lets you on TD.

Exactly. Mom isn’t going to sit around being broke while daughter spends a thousand in cash on shite she wants that mom can’t afford. Don’t inject a large sum of cash into a situation where money is tight unless you are prepared to deal with the fallout. Also, don’t begrudgingly give the niece money as a gift. A gift should come from the heart because it’s something you want to do, not because you were guilted into it.

I love my nieces and nephews to death and I would do almost anything for them.

But 1000 for a semester worth of A's is a big fat hell no. Maybe I'd do that when they graduate high school, or more likely I'd put that on a down payment on a car if my brother was planning on getting one for them.

I wouldn't give her that much money but maybe take her out for dinner or take her shopping.

Make his wife open up her back door. He wants the money, then you get some honey.

Man, things like this really make me appreciate that my family members aren’t a bunch of dumbasses. My brother and I are best friends and wouldn’t dream of doing some stupid shite like that to each other.

I was never financially rewarded as a student for doing what I was supposed to, and $1000 is an insane amount for that.

I wouldn't give my own kids $1,000 for good grades.

Your brother doesn't realize that regardless if you are in the top 5% or even top .05%, he has no right to spend someone else's money?

Offer her some sort of a match on any college scholarships she receives.

Go to the 14 year old, explain the deal, make your own deal with her, ignore your brother.

Anybody not responsible for signing my paychecks is gonna have a hard time “demanding” damn near anything from me. Happy to discuss requests, going to politely decline any request to pay a thousand bucks for any grades made by anyone at any time, but demands are a problem right from the start.

Especially if it’s your stepsisters kid

I wouldn’t even think of giving my own kids $1000 for straight A’s. They’re expected to make good grades. You don’t get rewarded for doing shite you’re supposed to do

Sounds like your brother needs money

When your step-niece gets out the house, give her some money then, but only if you want to

We were never paid for grades bc that’s what was expected - my parents were teachers and my dad was tough (despite being an Aggie )

Should’ve asked if he wanted tots or onion rings with his knuckle checking
