My AMEX was hacked yesterday.

Got a Fraud alert text message from AMEX yesterday morning about an attempted charge to "Great Buy Tickets" for $384. AMEX denied the charge somehow and alerted me. I called them and they told me that a $1 charge was put on my card to "Woodfords Family Services" shortly before.
Apparently they run a small charge to see if the card is legit and then try to charge a large one.
So my card is canceled and receiving a new one tomorrow. fricking criminals.
BTW, looked up Great Buy Tickets on the Web and there is no such thing, but Woodfords is apparently a legit nonprofit out of Maine.

I've got my card set to alert me by text message anytime the card is used.
If I swipe it at a business, I usually get a text message from them before I can put the card back into my wallet!

AMEX is awesome for these situations, but they are also way too protective. They cancel your card with the quickness if you put a couple of expensive things on it within an hour of each other.

I love my Discover card, they call me if there is ever any fraudulent activity and make sure it's all good. Had some people try to rack up $1000s of dollars in Ohio one night, told them I was in LA and they cancelled it with the quickness.

Couple of years ago, Chase VISA contacted my wife about her credit card. Asked her if she had made several purchases over the past couple days in New York City. My wife says no. There were 4 days of purchases in Lafayette, LA and New York City at several department stores and pharmacies on the same days and it took them 4 days to figure this out.

Yeah. And AMEX tries to play it off like they are protecting you, but since they cover fraud, they are really only protecting themselves at your inconvenience.

AMEX is great for fraud alert and protection. They will also reverse or put a hold on a charge with the quickness should you have any problem with the goods or service delivered. I've gotten the $1 charge a couple of times... and without fail, I get a call from AMEX about 5 minutes later. You are right... fricking criminals!!
