He could end up buying a bunch of cheap garbage no one wants . I know someone who tried that with knives about 10 years ago. Sufficed to say, there were many b-day and Christmas gifted knives for a few years after that.
This is my concern. He tells me he's not required to purchase or stock anything. We haven't discussed it yet, so I guess he needs to really explain this scheme to me.
He could mow grass, but he doesn't have any equipment and no way to get it around as of now. He's also very tech savvy (wants to get into cyber security), so anything working with tech is more in his wheelhouse.

Tell your son to put in a real hard days work. Get him away from the goofy social media crap for awhile

Sounds like he should come to you with a detailed business plan, budget, and predicted revenues.
I asked him to do this, actually.

Sounds great. Amazon needs more chinese dog bowls with a random brand name screen printed on it.

Unless he's a savant, there's no way his business plan has zero flaws, so it should be easy to poke holes.

If your son can make money dropshipping he's a genius with a great deal of luck and a very bright future.
Be sure he makes his mistakes as cheaply as possible.
ETA: as kids we fell for this 1960's scam - it was cheap validation to stick with mowing lawns:

He also asked about setting up some social media marketing thing where clients pay him upfront and he uses a portion of those funds to contract a professional to do the actual marketing work
So I'm paying a 15 year old to control my marketing and on top of that I'm getting 50 cents on my dollar since he isn't doing it and having to go find the work. Lol
Go buy him a lawnmower

My son has been trying to come up with ways to make money since getting a "real" job at 15 has proven somewhat difficult thus far.
Tell him to go work at a grocery store. Plenty of job openings right now.

He could buy and sell sports cards on Ebay. I do that on the side and make about $800-$900 a month doing it (after expenses). It does take a shitload of time though.
Got a buddy that does this on the side and he makes a little bit, but he's also got enough discretionary income sitting around to fund it. I'm not investing in this until he can make a really solid case for doing so. I'm thinking we just apply to Chick-fil-A again and let him figure out how to fund himself. He enjoys stock trading and I think he'd do well if he learned more about that. But I've told him it's up to him to figure out to fund himself.

So far, most places have been really crappy about hiring a 15-year-old. I didn't think it would be that tough, but everyone says they already have enough kids at that age.

Yeah, I already told him that's an absolute no.

Don't know what this is. I feel like that's a good thing.
Since he has no job now if he was wearing Supreme your wallet would know it.

You’ll find he has a subscription to Andrew Tate

Am I the only person who has no idea what dropshipping is?
Posted on 6/28/23 at 1:14 pm to Indefatigable
No, a few ppl in this thread have already demonstrated they do not either.

My wallet already knows a LOT of things about his realm. I'm gonna put that on my list of "automatic nos."
I'm actually going to have him read this thread. We've got plenty of successful people here and he really needs to see that it isn't just me being skeptical of his idea. People presumably much smarter than I are in agreement. It's never good enough to hear it from Dad.
I'm a little concerned that he's going to end up down the OnlyFans rabbit hole thanks to one of the earlier replies.

I know the name partially because of TD and partially because of him, so no doubt there. I have warned him about the guy and listening to anything he says. Peers and such, though. All the kids are into it.

Care to give a definition?

I have a retired army buddy that found a product to resell on Amazon. His cut is pretty decent and he sells about 75-100 cutting boards a week. I think he makes 20 to 30 bucks a pop on each one.
He gives a ton to charity related to veterans issues. He only has one product. I designed a roof rack for 4Runners and sold a ton of them. It’s some good side money but fairly time consuming so I’ve not done it in a while.
