You laugh but a real world example says he is correct and you are oh so wrong.

Drug use down by half after decriminalization

I can't imagine why. If I were a cop in Baltimore, I know I'd be going the extra mile to "protect and serve."

why? Are you a raging alcoholic considering you can easily buy that whenever you want?

If you want coke today, you can still go find it and buy it. A law isn't what's making you not be addicted and broke, it's your personal decision to not be.

less addicts

That's been proven by countries who have legalized and controlled the heavy stuff. The Dutch provide addicts with safe houses with clean needles and help them ween off of their addictions.

ETA:

Its not completely legal for drug dealers to stand on corners selling hot shots of heroin or anything. They legalized and controlled things so they can monitor them. This pushes out black markets and the subsequent crime related to those.

That sucks for you, man.

The tax money they'd make off you would go into teaching a new generation about how stupid you were to do so much coke.

Not any longer, but I seem to recall an instance of this happening in American history. Perhaps in the 1920s following the passage of the 18th Amendment.

Yup. When it was illegal. So we know that it's a stupid solution yet here we are still doing it.

Strict gun laws don't work when you can just leave the city, buy a gun, and come right back into the city

But wouldn't that mean the city with lax gun laws should also have a high crime rate? If the availability of guns is the issue, then Houston should be just as violent as Chicago.

the article specifically stated that many of these murders are over drug turf in poor neighborhoods. If you didnt' have gang A vs B fighting over who can sling on which corner, and adult users could simply go to the store and buy their DOC, you don't think it'd eliminate much of this violence?

I could be wrong but I don't see anyone killing over turf for the right to sell alcohol and cigarettes.

So what. Follow the argument to its logical conclusion. If drugs were legal, EVERYONE would be doing them. We would be up to our eyeballs in pot addicts and fastfood wrappers.

There is even study after study that shows the harm smoking pot alone does to people. I'm talking death and delirium here. And you guys think the War on Drugs was a bad idea.

I mean, my god, next thing you guys will say is that the War on Terror should be scrapped.

You need to study the causes of substance abuse.

Happy people don't need drugs to be happy.

Troubled people need drugs to numb the pain of reality. Then throwing that person in a cage does nothing but punish them for being troubled in the first place.

EDIT: I also think the War on Terror should be scrapped. We're wasting billions of dollars fighting an ideology, not an army. It is much harder to pinpoint and fix.

I thought after we got the Rebel flag hauled down at the Statehouse in Columbia that all this would be over.

Maybe it's Robert E. Lee's fault. On to Lee Circle!

The lack of personal responsibility to raise one's own offspring has absolutely nothing to do with this crime epidemic. It's the fault of slaveholders from two hundred years ago. Let's dig them up and put them on trial and do something really, really bad to them for justice.

Dude, I was addicted to sniffing sharpies for 25 years. I think I know a thing or two about this.

Now imagine had sharpies been illegal, I might not have gotten my hand on them... I still to this day cannot be in most conference rooms or I start tweaking.
