I was head home on Florida yesterday evening, and, at the light at Oneal, two crotch rockets went straight down middle of the traffic backup all the way to light and merged themselves in.

Hard to treat motorcyclists like just another vehicle when they don't adhere to the same rules.

Someone ran a light. The left turn from Nicholson southbound onto south quad is a protected left turn only.

Yeah blows my mind we haven’t cracked down harder on reckless driving in the state. Harsher penalties are way past due
New Orleans is an absolute shitshow when it comes to this and it’s probably my biggest complaint at the moment

Thought they switched it to the flashing yellow arrow thing but could be wrong. If not then definitely ran the light

I would bet my house that if you had someone do a crash recreation of the event, you would not see the motorcycle before making the decision to turn.

it is - and Baton Rouge, too

There isn’t an intersection I’ve sat at in the last few weeks where someone hasn’t run a light - it’s really ridiculous

The other day at Acadian & Perkins someone ran the light after a few cars that had the green went through - luckily the guy two cars in front of me saw the self important arse hole

This is legal in some other states and studies have shown it is safer for motorcyclist than being in stop and go traffic.

That said, it's still illegal here so you can get a ticket. But I don't blame them for doing it

Yep. Sometimes it is someone squeezing in, but even just yesterday on my way to work, someone just straight up was casually strolling through a red turn arrow in front of us.

I look both ways before proceeding when I'm in front now because I see way too many people blow through the red like it's nothing lately.

I remember about 10 years ago I was in California (I forgot where, maybe L.A.?) and I noticed on that trip that every single time I was in line to turn left without a designated arrow, the person in front of me would pull into the intersection so when it turned red they could still make the left. I thought it was wild that it happened at every light because I had never seen that here on such a scale, and it was an unspoken rule there.

Today, you see this at every light in BR.

Although.. if the first person in line at lights wasn't dicking off on their phone for 5-10 seconds after the light turns green, people maybe wouldn't feel the need to run red lights when they're the last car.

Legal or not, it presents an issue of automobile drivers having to look for them where they are not supposed to be.

Well, in the states where it is legal, the bikes are supposed to be there. And car drivers should be aware. It's called filtering

His Facebook is open and his cover photo is of him and his mom next to each other on motorcycles. I imagine after she died his head was fricked and it was only a matter of time.

I’ll never understand people who love motorcycles but I guess it’s a vice like anything else and you accept your fate

Absolutely devastating.

The news broke just before we started track and field practice but I didn’t know she was one of the victims. Ive known her dad for a few years and as a parent myself, it’s just absolutely crushing.

Would be curious to see those studies.

California is one state where you see it all the time. Surprised more of them don't get taken out by cars changing lanes that don't see them.

Those people were all doing it right. If you weren't entering the intersection then you were part of the traffic problem.
