No

I don't mind either really. I don't care about the suffix. It's semantics.

I had a physics prof who would freak out when called Mr instead of Dr, saying "I worked my arse off and earned that title. It's disrespectful not to use it.
On campus, he is correct. Off campus, in public, he is "Mr."
Only MD is "doctor" in social situations.

If you can tell me what coverage the secondary is in when the ball is snapped in tiger stadium I'll probably call you a doctor because that is what matters to me. A true doctor would have known that bama was playing zone on half the field and man to man on the other half whenever Jefferson threw his 75 yard pass in 2010. We all are gonna die sometime just like the fan during the 2014 ole miss game so I could care less if you can help my body heal. I want to know when the ball is snapped If a linebacker is gonna do a delayed blitz or spy the QB above all else. This is true rocket science I am talking about, unlike getting a phd which is not rocket science.

My middle school French teacher used to get pissed whenever someone called her mrs instead of Dr.

Not a big deal to most. In a large group practice for a while about 30 years ago and the most insecure guy in the group insisted on being called Dr. He was one of those "double docs" that always signed his name Dr. _____ DVM. I took great joy in blunting the V and turning into a U whenever I got my hands on something he'd signed.

So this is why you support Hillary. You've got a worthless doctorate.

I do not support Hillary. But a vote for Hillary is a vote against Trump.

Admit it. You want free shite. No matter how crass that arse can be, it does not surpass the absolute vileness of Hillary.

Sometimes I forget I have a PhD, so no, I never insist people call me Dr.

At one physical therapy clinic I used, everyone, including the physicians, called the PT's Mr. or Mrs. I felt bad because I had been calling them by their first names only. I tried to remember to do it after that.

My barber has a JD. Still waiting for the day for her to drop some "Esquire" line of douche on me. Been two years, hasn't happened.
I've never seen a woman who cuts hair referred to as a barber. For some odd reason this is what stuck out to me most in this whole thread.

MD's and Judges get the professional designation in non-professional settings in my book.

Europeans are very into titles. They would do this whether they have MD or PhD. Especially Germans. I met with one that was introduced as Dr. Prof! Anyway,
for me, as an MD, no, I have never done this, except once, and it involved a European (well Brit).
I was meeting our new VP and his admin asked my name, and I replied with my first name and asked if he was running late, but referred to him by his first name. She gave me a cross look and said, calling me by my first name, "Dr. Last name" will be with you shortly, in a very condescending fashion. I looked at her and said, "well in that case, you can call me Dr. (my last name) and gave her a wink and a smile. She was not amused.

Only a-holes/newly graduated folks do this.
I can't look at someone and tell they have an advanced degree.
Also, if they are so smart, why are they coming to me for help....

I prefer to be called "Maestro".

Just submitted my dissertation yesterday, defend in two weeks. I'm already teaching at another school. I may make students call me doctor, but that'll be it.
