I'll be working for the Navy in Suitland, MD and was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to live. Obviously Suitland itself is a ghetto, so I won't be living there. My gut tells me Alexandria is probably the best place to settle but was wondering if any of you OT baws have any better ideas.

Is 87 the year you were born? Kids? Wife? Neither?

I'll deal. I've been living about 4,500 miles away for the last 2 1/2 years.

South Arlington will be the best bang for your buck. I recommend the Avalon Square on 395/South Glebe. It’s where I used to live. Good prices for the area and centrally located to most things. Off metro though.

It was a very long time ago but I lived in Laurel, MD while commuting to DC for work. It was decent enough

I'd also recommend you take the Metro and plan your living location around proximity to a station

ETA: Laurel is too far for you

I lived in DC for 3 years, yeah you don’t want to live near there. Rent or buy... family? Alexandria would be a good place, prepare for the arse raping in rent everywhere. How much is the navy giving you for housing?

I don't want it to be too long of a drive. I love to be early for work but also don't want to have to wake up too early to achieve this. That's why I either want to live just across the Potomac or in an area in Maryland where there isn't a high crime rate.

If you have the cash, North Arlington. Probably one of the best public school systems in the country. Mike Pence and the CEO of Hilton Hotel (who himself is an alumni of Yorktown High) sent their kids through that system. It has also produced the CEO (or executive chairman or something) of Google. It's very liberal but the entire DMV is overall. North Arlington is where it's at. Very clean and safe with a very high functioning government while it leans left, actually does a lot to better the community and provide opportunities for all of the citizens. It's a real gem. Alexandria will be more urban if you're into that around the King Street area but if you're looking for suburbs, Arlington is the way to go.

I don't know what BAH is in D.C. but I'm told it's around the same as what we're given here in Hawaii. So perhaps $2,000 a month?

housing costs are high ever for OT ballers...
