A lot of people do that drive every day. 66 East coming in at 5 AM is a bitch.

South Arlington will be the best bang for your buck. I recommend the Avalon Square on 395/South Glebe. It’s where I used to live. Good prices for the area and centrally located to most things.

Lived there my first year up there (2010), holla.

Only if you are by yourself. If you have a passenger there is no toll.

Used to be you couldn't ride at all without a passenger.

What does annoy people is the expansion of the hours.

I'll share the same advice I got when I thought I wanted to live in Bethesda / Silver Spring when I got orders to the Pentagon.

It was, "You work in Virginia. Live in Virginia."

You'll work in Maryland. Live in Maryland.

Suitland, MD
yes, a shithole

ignore any advice to live in Maryland. It sucks for gun owners and taxes are higher. Also the people tend to be stupider.

Alexandria right off 495 would be decent as the commute to Suitland wouldn't be too bad for DC area standards.

I grew up in the dc area

crossing from VA to MD everyday for a commute is a total nightmare
I used to commute from Alexandria to Landover during rush and it was 45-hr. Commuting from Alexandria to Suitland won't be that bad

Commuting from Silver Spring to Suitland will suck more.

ETA: I have a buddy in the Navy that commutes to where you will be going and he lives in Alexandria. I can let you know what place he and his wife live. it's not a bad commute at all

You can make $140K a year and be regulated to a condo
140k/year with good credit and savings can get you a really nice place

Last year we made $300K combined and it still wasn't shite for the area
could easily afford a $1MM+ McMansion in Fairfax County

The taxes, the fees, the lifestyle, etc. It just all compounds living up there
The taxes aren't that bad at all. Yes housing/rent is expensive but that's the price for living in an area with a ton of high paying jobs and public transit, etc

Everybody’s go to is Arlington which you should take a look at. Two other options could be Annapolis or Silver Springs which is in Montgomery County. Any of those would give you a reasonable drive to beautiful Suitland.

If you’re working close to the Suitland Station on the Green line, just rent something in DC for a year or so. Navy Yard, South Capitol Hill, H Street, etc are all great areas for singles and 15-30min Metro rides to the Suitland station.

Honestly if I was single like you and navy is paying most of it, rent in navy yards, eastern market or SW waterfront area in DC... experience all the city has to offer. That’s what we did when I was at graduate school at GW... lived at 12th and L NW and walked everywhere

Rents are only $50 per night, per the newspapers this week. And you pay only when you sleep overnight.

Sounds like a good deal to me.
