In that case, Effingham moreso than Bryan because of the proximity. I would still say Rincon or South Guyton. Plenty of golf courses around...hell, I live on one. And if golf is your thing, jump over to Bluffton or Hilton Head once in a while - golf course mecca...well, except for the one on Parris Island!

Awesome. I will take a look at Effingham

I know there are a ton for rent in Rincon. Not sure about South Guyton, which is just a few minutes closer and maybe cheaper.

Not even real minor league. It is college summer league.

I would look at Whitemarsh/Wilmington island. Ten minutes from Tybee. Ten minutes from downtown. Very little crime. Plenty of bars, restaurants and grocery stores.

Nice. Sounds like what I'm looking for

To add to what spaceman suggested, I have lived in Savannah for 15 years. Worked in the same area you will.
I basically boils down to what you like.
Effingham and Bryan are more rural. Plenty of neighbourhoods that have been built in last 10-15 years. I wouldn't call Savannah urban but is more of a city atmosphere.
Without knowing any thing about you, I like and live in the area called Islands. Wilmington island, whitemarsh island, Isle of hope. Old and new houses.
If you like a large gated community, the landings is not bad. Upper end of price.
These would be 20 minute or so drive.
There are others on the board that live in Bryan county/Richmond Hill. Maybe they will speak up. But that would be about a 45 minute or more drive. Assuming you are working at IP savannah mill.
If you like historical homes and don't mind on street parking and homes right next to each other, the historical district might fit.

Sounds like the Islands area is what I'm looking for. Want to rent a house

Something around 1200-1800 a month

I lived in long county when I was stationed at ft. Stewart.
Savannah reminds me of a smaller New Orleans.
If I had an opportunity in the future to move in that are I'd think I'd consider it.
Hilton Head isn't bad. Charleston would be nice to visit on occasion as well.
St. Simons island isn't too far as well

River street and that's it...
HH/Bluffton isn't bad and great restaurants.
Charleston is freaking awesome and blows Savannah away in all areas.

I work there a few times a year. Love that area.

What are you doing with IP Savannah. It is one of our larger customers and we are typically in there every week doing some work.

How does it compare to Charleston, ghetto-wise

All cities have their ghetto areas. In Savannah, stay south of MLK and its better and damn sure don't stray into Yamacraw Village after dark. Go past Forsyth and it gets ghetto again.
Charleston has its areas, too. But since he won't be living there and just visiting, the historic district is awesome. Hell, just park in the deck next to the old city market and you can walk everywhere without being bothered...its all within distance.
Choose your poison.
