My 4th biggest customer is in Reno so until Covid I was there every 3 months. My advice to you: Reno is a shithole, but it is within driving distance of some very nice places. I’d compare it to Albuquerque with more casinos. Take that what you will.

Nevada is actually witnessing a bit of a boom right now, mostly attributed to the mass exodus of California but they are. Tahoe is great.
I’ve honestly never been the biggest fan of Vegas but heard mixed things about Reno. Mostly drug stuff, but this was like 2008, so a lot has changed since then. I’d do it. I’m in NE now and it’s great but eventually see myself going out west.

Good points and one of the reasons I'm posting here to get similar options.
I'm looking at Austin, Tampa and Nashville as well.

Reno is basically a whiter, weirder version of Shreveport. Combine that with the weird lack of culture and community that tends to be the norm in transit cities...hard pass
I lived in vegas for four years and have spent time in Reno 3 times. Moved back to texas a year ago and am happier here, even with covid and all this political insanity going on, than I was there
You're overvaluing money and proximity to a nice place, and undervaluing what you see and do every day and who you end up being around all the time
Correct response. If you can live anywhere and want a place cheap within driving distance of nice places in the West, I’d recommend Santa Fe, Boise, or Coeur d'Alene. Much nicer towns with tons of nice places around them to have fun.

Take all 3 of them over Reno.

Yeah. That's the typical response I get.
I appreciate the feedback from everyone.

Some of the neighborhoods on the southern tip along 431 in the Galena/Saddlehorn area and up to Montreux are really nice.

Who would drive 2 hours to go to Sacremento?

That area of the country is beautiful, and there's plenty of wide open space.
That's about all I've got.

My point is you’re near some nice California geography if you want to go hiking, see the redwoods, go out to Napa, see the coast, etc.

Right. And San Francisco is like 3 and change from Reno.

It’s cold and super dry. Not a bad place. Downtown is full of tweekers

Exactly. I live in Denver, but Aspen as far as a drive is concerned is further than Reno is from SF. Reno is a great place to live if you love road tripping regularly, but if you don’t, it’s god awful.

I had some great times there about 20 years ago.

I’ve never been, but it’s always come across as a depressing place to live.

I'm considering moving to Reno.

If you love outdoor life then just being out west will do you some good. Is this job related?
I concur with this.
