My wife's parents moved just before her senior year. She was very active in high school (majorette, clubs, etc) and wanted to stay. One of her friends' family took her in for that year and she graduated with her class.

Give your child the option to stay. It's pretty shitty to make her move her senior year.

My dad got a job in BR halfway through my junior year so they moved in October and I followed in December. Second semester my junior year was very tough but that was because I hated it and everyone and just wanted to go back to Texas. Parents gave me the option of going back to Texas for my senior year to live with friends or giving BR another shot and I decided to stay. Best decision of my life. I definitely still struggled but I went out of my comfort zone, stopped missing Texas and ended up making some lifelong friends.
It's not easy moving in high school, at all, but I would've rather been around my dad for that year and not had any friends than vice versa. Luckily for me it all worked out in the end.

My job requires me to travel a lot. (200 days a year average) No way we can stay behind for her senior year. We moved to Illinois from Texas in 2009. Looks like we may be going back.

I don't know. Going off to college living in a dorm and/or with roommates seems a lot different than leaving a high schooler home alone for extended periods of time.
Why is it so different for this girl to do the same thing maybe 10 or so months earlier but actually have her father there most of the time? That actually seems much easier to deal with than a senior who just graduated going off to college and living in apartment, sometimes a few states away from family.

easy solution
rent a house for a year for you and your daughter
your wife can rent a place for a year
its just temporary
that is unless you are disabled and absolutely can't work or provide any type of income at the moment?

I moved to Florida the summer before my senior year, it wasn't ideal at the time but it worked out in the long run. I ended up staying in Florida for college and a few years after and then moved back to LA with my wife.

First world problems. Yeah, she'll have to make new friends. Bummer. She'll do the same when she goes to college.

No, but I suspect we would live in different cities until my daughter's senior year was over.

Just found out we are very likely moving before our youngest finishes high school. My wife's job is being moved to Dallas or Phoenix. We are pretty tore up for our daughter. It is gonna be tough on her.
Jerk move on you and your wife's part.
Did you even include her in the decision making process? I've been told that having children is about thinking of them over yourself.
How hard is it to wait a year than do what the hell you want?

When did thinking of your children first turn into basing major life decisions on a 17 yo's emotions? My god, some of you are absolute slaves to your children.

That is a whole lot of dumb right there. Children are kind of a major life decision and once you have them are a driving factor in life's decisions.
This is not about being slaves to them, however it is a question of doing what is right for your family.
If the OP has the power to remain, he should do it for one year.

Career military here, so yeah my older son never went to the same school two years in a row. Retired and back home in Arkansas now, won't ever move again.

Yeah. They are a factor. They are not the sole deciding factor that people like you pretend they are. People move schools all the time and you guys are acting like he's ruining her life.

She'll be sleeping with everyone at her new school so she can make friends quickly.

Get her arse into online high school and finish up high school early and start college.
I know senior years are "important," but they really don't mean anything.
Had a friend get transferred to Austin when his youngest was a junior in high school. Rather than switching schools, she enrolled in online high school at Ole Miss: LINK. There are tons of colleges that offer this.
Some of the best:
University of Nebraska: LINK
Texas Tech: LINK
Indiana University: LINK
Mizzou: LINK
UT Austin: LINK
Finished up, graduated early, started college early out in Texas and it worked out well.
All will give you a transcript that you will need to go to college. They won't give you a prom or homecoming.
Just throwing another option out there.
