Mounting TV on brick fireplace (running cables inside the brick)

Anyone have experience with this? Looks like the cables can be run along the backside of the brick wall studs and would be 6-8 inches away from the metal chimney insert thingy.
Recipe for disaster or no problemo?

Its a free standing metal tube, that's called a liner?
ps - just googled and its a chimney pipe (I think)

I have a gas fireplace. I cut into the wall and ran the cords through there.

I am going to wager that someone makes some kind of heat shielding for this application.

Just drill some holes and fish wire. Heat will be contained within the vent. Make sure cables are close to brick and you are fine. Use fireproof conduit

I have a feeling this won't end well, but here we go- look up brick wedge anchors. They look like the image below. I am not going to tell you what size to use, you can do the math.

he should make sure he drills into the brick and not the mortar for better support am i right?

I'm asking about the heat coming off the chimney pipe behind the bricks and if cables 6 inches away would be affected. Someone mentioned a heat shield which sounds like a good idea.

It's called a flue and sounds like you're asking to have the insulation on your wires melted.

When you drill thru bricks, use masonry bit and avoid drilling close to it's edge they tend to crack

just be warned mounting above a fireplace does void your warranty.
