Mounted mine above the mantel and no problems. If you have a large enough living/tv room it wouldn't hurt your neck. Idiots who buy a 60" TV for a 12'x 12' living room deserves a neck ache. Build a bigger house "baw". Hate that word.

You might be right, I've never been there and with the photo being only 2D, those circle outlets might be further out than they appear due to the angle where the pic is taken.
I'll just say it's very common for new construction to design the living room for the couches to be floating in the living area, not back against the wall, like in your photo. And the outlets on the floor marking the design for the couch to go over. And it's very close to the fireplace, causing you to have to crane your neck to watch TV. Looks nice, but very uncomfortable.
Like I said, I think a high back couch, and/or reclining couches, would definitely help with this. But some people don't care for the look of reclining couches.

Assuming a properly positioned TV, 60" is about the right size for 8 to 10 feet viewing distance.

Took the the fireplace out of my new house plans because I can't stand the smell of smoke in a house and was not mounting the TV over the fireplace. Because of the open floor plan we really only have one wall in the living room. The other is french doors and windows then the other side is kitchen and dinning area. I'm planning a fire pit on my patio to go sit and drink by with a TV mounted on my porch.

There's just something about this space that I don't care for...

That is where I shot my neighbor. That is why I sold that house.
