I would build on a mountain overlooking a beach.

I already have a beach house so I'll pick the mountains.

The trashiness scale drops dramatically as you head West into the mountains.

Beach. Mountains get cold.

Anything under 50 degrees is too cold.

Define a "lot" of money...

Truthfully, probably both, plus a place in NYC. The mountain home would be my primary residence and I could make money renting out the other two most of the year, and visiting whenever I want.

Beach. And it would probably be somewhere along North Gulf of Mexico that is East of Mississippi.

I don't like cold weather and I would like to be within driveable distance to SEC schools so I could go to all the big games during football season.

Instead of building a dream home I would get a modest priced cabin in the mountains and a modest priced condo on the beach. Fall / winter on the beach and spring / summer in the cabin.

Mountains.

Along with all of the standard mountain activities, there are plenty of awesome lakes in the mountain areas for summer fun.
