Natchez is the romanticized South. Antebellum homes, good food, Mississippi River running through. Trashy south would be Tchula.

Natchitoches

St. Francisville

The NE Delta area - The Mississippi Delta is called the most southern place on earth and this area is pretty much exactly like it except it doesn't have a decent town like Clarksdale

The River Parishes - but no normal Southern Accent

Yea its on the western edge but Monroe is a small city/large town and unless I'm going there for a wedding, or a meeting or something I'm not going spend time in Monroe

I'll go spend a long weekend in the Miss. Delta. Between Clarksdale, and Greenwood, plus a stop in Greenville for Does there is enough night life, good restaurants, and things to see to enjoy yourself.
The LA side of the Delta doesn't have this but a weekend at Lake Bruin is a good time.

fairhope and Pascagoula should be up there for southern coastal charm, small towns

for pure romanticized southern heritage, natchez

for poor delta living, the white front café rosedale, ms

Yeah it’s jusf on the edge but culturally it fits. If you drive to lake providence from Monroe you’ll notice a rather large slop downhill around Mer Rouge. That’s when you enter the true delta.

Those little towns in the delta blow if your aren’t on a lake. Bruin is a good time but still st joe sucks.

Edit: I didn’t read your whole post and just noticed you too have gotten drunk in Bruin. I am friends with some locals, they love a good time

The most redneck places in Mississippi are in the "Golden Triangle" region. The most romanticized southern places in MS are Oxford and Natchez.

Spoiler

Oxford sucks.

I've been to most of those places....and none of those are trashier than Booneville, Pontotoc, Ackerman, Calhoun City, Eupora, Corinth, Mantachie, Ripley, Amory, Vardaman, or Houston. Trust me I know. I have family in Water Valley and most of my family lives in Golden Triangle area.My fam is as country as a pitchfork.

From jonesville over toward Vidalia in the area called frogmore. Lots of plantation homes there and a lot of those plantations are still functioning as cotton and soybean fields.
