My dad was a shade tree mechanic when he wasn’t working as a plant baw.
A guy brought in a 1976 Dodge Colt. The clutch was gone. My dad told him it would be $250. The guy said screw it, threw my dad the keys and said keep it.
My dad gave it to me (I was 15). The clutch plate assembly was $45.
I changed it my self and got my first car for $45. I drove it for three years.
Looked like this but the paint matched.

In 2015, my supervisor had a 2004 Nissan Frontier that had been sitting for a year because it didn't start. Had 105K on it. He wanted it out of his yard so I offered $700 for it. I had my brother haul it off with his trailer and he changed the fuel pump and ignition switch. Keeping it for my daughter to drive in a few years.
We were gifted a car from a man who lived next to us who passed away and didn't have much family. I had helped him out with projects when he needed. It was a 95 or 96 Chevy Lumina, only had 66K miles but the A/C didn't work and the passenger side door didn't open. Drove very well but the A/C had a massive freon leak that I didn't want to repair. Sold it for $2K

Most expensive was a 720S that I never took delivery of.
Story behind that? I was on the edge of that or a Performante in 2020 and wound up going Porsche RS.

In college I bought a 1948 MG TD for $1,500. Rebuilt the body, the motor was fine, for its age, & I drove it for 10 yrs with no major expenses. Dollar value for the number of young coeds & working ladies it attracted, a bargain purchase.

Most expensive was a Chevrolet 2500 Diesel High Country.
Least was a 2005 Chevrolet 1500 Z71 Extended Cab I still own. I can't remember what I paid for it brand new.

I sold my old GTR and found one I liked. Passed PPI and everything, closed the deal and lined up transportation. The seller called me and said he had just gotten a significantly bigger offer and would pass along the guys info. My buddy was having so many problems with his 570 and after spending some more time learning how quirky they are i decided to let it go and just get another GTR but one with more power.
The RS is a better drivers car IMO. I think you made the right call.

You ask about my car then criticize my answer. That’s my wife’s car. I don’t drive due to a helicopter crash in 2011.
