Fontenot is not "Cajun" in the "Acadian" sense. They were not among the refugees.

The Fontenot lineage came directly from France, through Mobile, AL.

ETA: Fontenot is definitely "coon arse".

Ducote

As plentiful as Fontenot in Evangeline or Broussard in Vermillion.

I didn't know Mark personally, but I know his brothers, Larry and Steve. They talked about him often and were very proud of him.

I had a professor in college from around Mamou. His name was Granger, but said it was pronounced gran-jay with an accent on a and j.

Not only the most Cajun names (in Avoyelles Parish) but also the geography of where they originated in France. You're all welcome, I bet many of you can find yours. Mine is in the North West corner in Normandie.

Your link is broken but I once looked up my family’s surname, Firmin (Avoyelles also), & learned that Firmin was in the group that first arrived in Breaux Bridge within the famous painting of them arriving.

He was a funny little guy. Typical Cajun. About 5’6” and talked a mile a minute. He was senior to me by about 4-5 years. I’ll have to look to see if I still have my cruise book from that float to see if I have any pics.

Colonial French. Fontenots were here in Louisiana before the Cajuns came.
