Make sure you build it in the floodway. I hear land there is pretty cheap.

Does anyone know of what affect the opening may have on Gibson?
Posted on 5/29/19 at 8:57 am to coopsdad
Saying 0.1-2ft which is a huge range. Some roads in low lying areas already have water in them in Gibson.

I think it depends largely upon how long the Morganza is going to be open. There will be a rise but it will likely be minimal, not the 2' like the range says.

Thanks, trying to convince MIL to leave, but it may not be necessary.

Nah, she should be on back side of the new levee. She'll be fine.

I mean, I'd still keep a close eye on it. If they end up having to open more bays of the Morganza than they're anticipating or if the water begins to come over roads, I'd get out. Don't want to get trapped.

77 pages and they haven’t opened it yet? Anybody know when they are?

This thread started months ago discussing the very high Mississippi River levels and a hypothetical levee failure scenario. It then evolved into a discussion mainly on river dynamics and the history of the river. Then the ACE announced they would be opening the Morganza (which many said in this thread wouldn't happen) so it evolved into the Morganza Spillway discussion.
It's scheduled to open on June 2nd as of now.

i haven’t looked at at 77 pages, but has anyone posted (or can link to) an update map of projected areas affected and depths like was released in 2011?
seems like they updated those often back then, and the only ones i find on the google machine is 2011 maps.

That's all I have been able to find. Not sure why they're not releasing any more complete information on their expectations.

Where’s the link to this info?
Posted on 5/29/19 at 11:24 am to Paul Allen
Jay Grimes posted that to his Facebook account yesterday. I know nobody likes Facebook around here but that's the only info I've been able to find.

Thanks. I’ll go check it out.

Don't let Coop's gammy swim.
How's Coop, by the way?
