Finally have a direct shot to DC from the capital of the state. Seems like it should have already happened. Need 1 or 2 more west coast legs but MSY being so close doesn't help.

Wonder what the cost per ticket will be

I've never, ever seen on site parking at BTR completely fill. And for anyone not checking a bag and breezing through with precheck, 30m from car to gate is still very likely to happen.
I've never seen it completely full. But I've seen about half of the 3rd level of the parking lot full. It was like that last night. Wish they had a credit card only lane at exit. The cash payers take forever to exit.

They could easily fit another 100-200 cars between that and long term parking. I wouldn't say they have an abundance of space, but I think they could handle these new flights without an issue.
Paving some new parking lot is a relatively easy problem to solve anyways.

I fly American (yeah...I know they suck sometimes). But I'd probably switch to United if they flew to EWE and DEN from BTR. Definitely if they went to ORD.
Most of the terminals at IAH still suck, but they are improving. I still hate flying through IAH, especially to go east.
DC was one of the top 4 most popular destinations from BTR despite not having a non-stop. This flight will likely be at least as busy as the CLT flights.

BTR is great, so easy to use
Wish they would have more flights to ATL per day, I'd be fine connecting if there were more options to use Delta to get east

You might see seasonal flights to Miami before you see any more nonstops out of American (after this DCA flight).
The DCA flight will be busy. DC is a big destination for flyers in the Baton Rouge area. That might mean there won't be that many connections there...which American Airlines might not like.

I fly mostly with Delta but damn do they make it hard to go anywhere but UP or EAST in this country from BTR. Wanna go to Phoenix? You going way east first. Salt Lake? LA? Same. Know its part of the ATL hub location geographically, but sure adds time to my travels and makes it harder to use them.
AA is 7 out of 10 times a nightmare for me, but that DFW connection sure does open up the country to us from BTR.

MSY is sort of a focus city/mini-hub for Southwest (as far as Southwest hubs go). So I don't think any other city in south Louisiana or southern Mississippi will get Southwest service for that reason.
I'm okay with that. We need to get more Dreamliner flights to Europe from MSY and focus city status with another airline.
And more nonstops to domestic hubs out of BTR (Chicago, Denver, Miami, Detroit, Newark, New York, etc.). And boost air cargo volume at BTR, which is actually in the works now.
If we can accomplish at least some of the above, it would really help south Louisiana out in a big way.

Yay! I can go to the same places as MSY at 3 times the cost!

I think you could add Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and possibly Los Angeles to that list for Delta. But there's just no way it could be supported in BTR.

Delta Airline expansions at BTR will come in the form of larger jets to ATL than their current Boeing 717, not more non-stops to other hubs. They occasionally use A319's for those mainline services. They will probably amp that up if traffic picks up, but I doubt it. American is going to pick up the new market share unless Delta "finds" another viable hub that can be absorbed in mid sized markets in the south other than Atlanta. My guess is that LGA is the most likely candidate, but LGA has major issues with gate availability and runway traffic. More flights for LGA to anywhere is challenging.
Delta likes to move everything through Atlanta. They've sacrificed 2-3 other hubs that could serve the middle of the US (Dallas and Memphis + Cincy) to boost Atlanta. IMO they've made themselves vulnerable in the gulf south for this. However keeping MSP from the Northwest merger + their Detroit hub makes them very competitive in the midwest.
I know they are more efficient, but relying ONLY on Atlanta for a lot of mid sized markets in the south is stunting their growth in that market. If they had a hub in Dallas or Memphis still....they'd be in a better position for growth. But it would be a less efficient network overall for them.

DCA isn’t that big and just went through an expansion which probably allowed this. It could also just be that Garret Graves is starting to have some decent influence in Congress and he’s tired of connecting to BTR or flying into MSY.

Breeze Airways would have been the perfect hub for BTR servicing small to mid size markets in addition to MSY. I would like to support Breeze but unfortunately, the markets served from MSY are very limited at the moment.

Are they a hub/spoke setup or more like Southwest?

Daily nonstops to Washington Reagan is only going to solidify it.

Baton Rouge Metro Airport’s recently launched daily nonstop flights to Washington, D.C, are only about half filled, according to preliminary figures released by the airport.
The flight, launched by American Airlines in June to bring travelers to Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C., was roughly 45% full in August, according to preliminary figures. That’s significantly lower than the 68% recorded in July and 74% recorded in June. BTR load factor average for all flights is 85%.

What’s the real utility of more directs out of BTR when the same flight out of MSY costs 1/3 the price?

The hours are brutal if they're still the same as when it started. Something like departures at 530 in the morning. Arrivals from DC at 10 at night. I would rather have a layover than get up that early or get home that late.

Saw this coming. I said there’s no need for a flight to DC when “American” already flies to Charlotte. Other than being a non-stop to DC (which is needed by almost no one) there’s nothing flying to Reagan offers you that Charlotte can’t top connection wise.
This flight was pulled off by politicians who were able to grease some palms.
