American Airlines has chipped away from Delta’s dominance in the BTR catchment area over the years. Daily nonstops to Washington Reagan is only going to solidify it. Good for them and Baton Rouge flyers.

American Airlines has announced it will launch new nonstop service between Baton Rouge Metro Airport (BTR) and Washington D.C. with daily service to Reagan National Airport (DCA) beginning June 1, 2023. The new nonstop flights will be operated with a 76-seat Embraer 175 jet with first class, premium economy, and economy seating.

Now we need United to Newark and Chicago. Or new Southwest service….to literally anywhere.

And hub status at MSY with more nonstops to Europe.

Nonstop to ORD likely within 5 years after they finish the expansion of their terminal at O’Hare.

Outside chance, but not anytime soon.

No chance. We’ll see fewer hubs in the future…not more.

That’s pretty huge for making east coast trips easy. Years ago I went to DC for a few days then took the Amtrak to nyc to visit family. Amtrak tickets were $50/e. Besides the train station being gross, the train ride was super comfortable with larger passenger seats. It was super safe. I was shocked since it was my first time on a passenger train.

This could make for a cool long weekend opportunity. Go to DC on a Thursday, take the train somewhere on the east coast Friday for the weekend, and then fly home Sunday.

There was a nonstop to and from Chicago when I first started at LSU in 2008, actually was a major factor in my decision to attend. They stopped it like three months later.

I remember. Recession got it and the nonstop to Denver canned.

Airlines have been super conservative with expansion since then.

Can’t beat arriving at BTR 30 mins before your flight and cruising through security and right to the gate.

BTR had a bunch of non-stops added after Katrina but they ended quick. Chicago, Cincy, Newark. Used to fly to Memphis with Northwest until Delta killed Memphis.

I would love to fly into Reagan on the River visual approach one day.

It’s a great approach. That’s an easy airport to get in and out of.

You are joking….but I do think they are replacing and adding new jet bridges. Because this is probably the last one they have.

The sausage biscuit at the place in BTR is one of the GOAT airport foods. If I fly out of there I make sure to get there early so I can grab one.

I’m not joking. I know AA only has 2 jetbridges on their side of the terminal. They have a downstairs gate where you walk out to the plane.

If this DCA flight leaves in the 5 o’clock hour it’s right there with the DFW and CLT early morning flights.

3 flights, 2 jetbridges. Luckily the much maligned CRJ to Charlotte comes with its own set of stairs.
