While there are a lot of deserving names in contention (Chuck Norris, T Boone Pickens, Ron Howard), I think the debate comes down to these two. I think it's Garth at this point.

Who ya got?

Mickey Mantle just because he had more time to get famous. There is a whole generation that is dead who adored Mantle and passed that down to their descendants. The Yankees have the biggest fanbase in the country and every single one of them knows MM. Not every one knows Garth. When is the last time he put out a hit?

And tons of 16-25 year olds hate country and dont know who Garth is.

Ron Howard was considered, and I think it's close. I didn't cound Brad Pitt because I associate him more with Missouri, as that was where he really grew up. Reba is not more popular than Garth or Mickey Mantle. Chuck Norris is interesting because of the length of his career, but I don't think he's more popular than either Garth or Mickey.

I think that as the Boomers die off so will the popularity of Mantle. He'll always be remembered as one of the all-time baseball greats, but he has potential of fading like Joan Crawford, Will Rogers, Gene Autrey, and Jim Thorpe. A legend of a time long ago.

Mickey mantle I’ve never ever heard a Garth brooks song in my life. Mickey is a legendary yankee. And baseball is great while country music stinks.
