that's a big age group to lump together since most 18-22 or 23 year olds could potentially be in school or trying to get their foot in the door of a decent company.

This. I'm in my 20's, but I'm living with my parents while working full time and going to school fulltime.

After living on my own for a while, there's no way I could go back to living with my parents. I get cabin fever after two or three days

Do you kick in for groceries and bills at home?

what's truly great is we've spent trillins of dollars since 2008 to keep housing prices high, which specifically excludes workers from the opportunity to afford a home. why? to protect bad investments by boomers and gen x

wonderful system that is totally fair to my people

A McDonald's employee can afford cheap rent.

with Section 8? yes

the more difficult issue is that salary range just outside of benefits territory, especially if you sprinkle in some student loans. it makes things real difficult, real quickly

My car's paid off.
I pay my phone bill, car insurance and whatever else I have a monthly fee for (Amazon, Xbox, Spotify, etc.)
I go and get my own shampoo, deodorant, etc. but as far as cold cuts, bread and other groceries, I don't.
I do chores to pitch in though

My gf made it through medical school and earned a PhD on far less than a $15/hr "living wage". That meant a pre-paid flip cellphone, no cable TV, no going out to eat (until I came along), a sub-$10k vehicle, etc.

She'd have 100k+ in student loan debt if she didn't go to school 20 years ago, old man.

Yes - I see why so few can afford to move out

If your parents are good with it, I guess you should ride the gravy train til it goes off the rails. When I came home after college, I just couldn't do it. I wanted to get out and live on my own.

How does the author of this article come up with this title:

quote:

More Young Adults Live With Parents Than Not

when the data he cites clearly says that only 32% live with parents?

That means 68% do not live with parents so clearly it is inaccurate to say that "more young adults live with parents than not."

I just can't accept this as being accurate. I can't think of a single friend I've had in the last 5 years still living at home. I'm 30 for reference

Yeah maybe not in Livingston Parrish, but you'd be surprised in California and New York I bet.

This. I can think of one friend who still lived with his parents up until recently and he's 30.

But just because it isn't common here in that doesn't make it so in New York, Cali, Chicago, Boston, etc.
