Monsters Inside Me, the successful Animal Planet series, follows tales that are both horrifying and real. The show details the scary developments that can occur when humans encounter viruses, bacteria and parasites.

You don't think doctors make mistakes? Google to see how many people still die from infections after surgery due to doctors not washing hands (its I think its just over 100 a year, which if a very small percent, but the point is mistakes still happen. And they are mostly emergency surgeries).

As a side note: Do you know the doctor who first suggested that patients died from the transfer of bacteria from doctor to patient (this was in the arse end of 1800s) was thought to be a kook because he thought this?

That show is full of inaccuracies and just outright lies.

And truthfully, parasitic infections like show on the show are so rare in the US that it isn't on the doctors mind, definitely not going to cross a nurses mind. Trichomonas is probably the only thing I have seen doctors look for... and it is rarely that. Oh, and doctors do way dumber things than not identifying a parasite! It is scary when you see behind the curtain.

I have no doubt these viruses etc are real but the way the stories play out on the shows are scripted.

My wife had this chronic, non-specific pain in her side a while back. I told her right away that I thought it was some kind of muscle strain, like an oblique or something. This was also the diagnosis her physician arrived at something like 3 months and 3 visits later, having ruled out about 5 other things first. Honest to God, he even suggested it might be sickle cell anemia at one point

She’s have solved her issue immediately if she consulted a law professional instead.

A lot of doctors in the hospital spend less than 5 minutes actually examining a patient. They put in orders based on what the nurse tells them and what they read in the chart.

“testicular torsion”

My neighbor went to ER with flank pain radiating into his groin, classic kidney stone symptoms.
They told him he had testicular torsion and sent him home.Thing is his testicle didn’t hurt and if it was a torsion it should have been addressed as it’s a medical emergency.
Torsion hurts like a MF,I’ve had it twice.I was able to reduce it myself which was excruciating in itself but saved no telling how much,by not going to E,R.

Anyway he got in with a urologist in a day or two and he had a kidney stone.

Sure, doctors suck.. Next time you or yours are sick or hurt - stay home. See how that works out for you.

When you have a nurse for a spouse ( no pics ) who has worked in a surgical setting, you can tell some real doozies if you want to.

Where do you work? This has never been the case at any hospital I’ve worked at. We rely on our nurses to help us with their patients, sure, but the physician is still the one running the show.

Why do you think they call it "practice". I would say 85% of "doctors" don't know what they are doing and are winging it and are just very smart in school (hence passing through medical school). It is very rare to find a doctor who competent and helps people. Most just have thousands of patients and push pills that cover symptoms without finding the cause of the problems.
