MONROE, La. A family of five is counting their blessings after their boat flipped over at the Forsythe Boat Ramp.

The family was on the Ouachita River when they noticed water coming into the boat.

They tried to stop it from sinking, but it didn't help. Luckily, they were all able to hold on until some good Samaritans rescued them.

They say an important suggestion from their dad saved their lives.

"Before we came out, he made us all put on the life jackets. And we was like, the babies didn't want to, but I'm thankful that they did. The only thing I could do was pray. I started praying, my babies were crying. I'm just glad to be alive. My family is alive and well. We're all here and we're safe," says Rennada Bass, rescued from the boat.

This was the first time the family used the boat after it was in the shop for repairs.

The Bass family all needed life jackets.

Isn’t it ironic?

Clearly they aren't smart... but it'd be insane to lose a life at a boat ramp due to water.

I foresee a lawsuit against the repair shop for negligence.

I am glad every thing turned out fine for the family.

Not if the plug was missing.

Not the repair shops resposibility

That appears to be a bass boat. The bilge pump (assuming it works) should be able to pump out water faster than a missing plug will allow it to come in.

How do you flip a boat in 2 feet of water?

This situation sounds more like common jackassery than anything life threatening. Jump out and swim the 5 ft back to shore.

How were they ever in danger of not surviving? Were they out on the river or were they at the launch?

WTF?

Something similar to that happened at a bachelor party on Lake Travis. One of the strippers fell through the front door and went under the boat between the pontoons. She popped up behind the boat. How we didn't kill a stripper that day was a miracle. I guess God had other plans for her.
