Back in 2011, Naruto was just an anonymous macaque in the jungles of Indonesia. On one particular day, however, the photogenic primate happened upon a wildlife photographer's camera and snapped a "monkey selfie."
quote:
Whether the act was intentional or a quite-too-literal instance of monkeying around, only the grinning primate knows for certain. But it raised a complicated question: Who owns the images Naruto took, the monkey or the man?
quote:
On Monday, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced a settlement with photographer David Slater, ending a lawsuit it filed on Naruto's behalf. Under the deal, Slater agreed to donate 25 percent of future revenue from the photos to groups that protect crested macaques and their habitat in Indonesia. Both sides also asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals "to dismiss the case and throw out a lower court decision that said animals cannot own copyrights,"
quote:
PETA and David Slater agree that this case raises important, cutting-edge issues about expanding legal rights for nonhuman animals

So does PETA pay the animals they feature in all their publications?

Most shocking thing in this article is that the 9th Circuit actually reached a logical result..........and then it was thrown out.
Nvm: See that the decision was made by the lower court. Probably a good idea to settle. Who knows how the 9th circuit would have decided it.

PETA needs to die a radical fiery death

Now I really hate PETA. That photographer is a douche among douches.

Naruto's girlfriend had a serious case of the red-arse after learning about the misuse of his photograph.

I don't want to live in this world anymore.

I wonder if Slater took the photo rather than the monkey?

that a court would even agree to hear this case is so sad...
how can an animal "own" anything? this great country continues to be poisoned by these liberal thinking idiots

I would have told PETA to suck a monkey dick.
How in the hell did PETA have any standing in this case? Did the monkey retain PETA to represent him?
ETA: that is an alpha selfie tho

A case involving an Indonesian primate too ...
I would have filed a motion for sanctions under Rule 11.

No it doesn’t, it’s this isn’t ground breaking or cutting edge. It’s liberal hysteria.

When in doubt always file your motions under the "suck a monkey dick you stupid shite" rule

The Appeals Court ruled definitely that animals can’t bring IP claims.
