Actually, he can speak some Swede as he spent his summers there and his mother often spoke Swede around the house. But comparing the U.S's trials pressure to Olympic pressure is apples to oranges. He has one bad day at the trials, he's fini. Whereas in the Olympics, he'd have several chances to stay in the chase for Gold. As both his parents were pro track athletes, it is safe to assume, strictly from a professional perspective, competing for Sweden was in his best interest. People here have no idea what it takes to become an Olympic class athlete : yrs and years and years of sacrifice & hard work. And to possibly have one day erase those hopes makes no sense. Mondo & his family are great LSU Tigers & we should support his accomplishments.

I can count on my dick the number of times a dude from my home town has been the best in the world at something. And this dude bails on us for a fictional socialist utopia.

I didn't know pole vaulters were so prone to choking that they had to bail on their native land when they find that its trials are too scary.

You know so little. Under the stupid US rules, a vaulter can clearly be the best in the world by far but if he's sick or injured during the US trials and can't perform at his best he doesn't make the team.

The main reason he chosen Sweden is because they bank roll his training and travel. I am pretty sure his dad is paid as a coach as well. US track and field was not going to do any of that. You are own your own to find sponsors until you make the team in the US.

Mondo is very much an American & I couldn't be prouder. of him. To break a world record, in any sport, but especially at his age, takes more "guts" and dedication than you dip shits will ever have. The Duplantis family is a great LSU family, one all Tiger fans can be proud of as one of our own. So much hate in this world, such a waste of time.

Pretty awesome. Mondo is pretty awesome.

Anyone saying he is gutless has zero knowledge of USA Track. USATF has screwed over athletes for decades. At his level staying with them at this point would have hurt him. USATF needs major restructuring
