Poor Riley. Now she's going to think that she's not celebrated and perfect. Such a cruel, cruel world that we live in.

The appointment started off as usual, with a physician’s assistant taking the 7th grader’s vitals and asking a few basic questions about her sleep, exercise (Riley plays both softball and basketball) and diet. But then, according to Venn, the nurse practitioner abruptly said, “Tell me RILEY, HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN ALL OF THIS WEIGHT YOU’VE GAINED?”

1) physician assistant not physician's assistant and they don't take vitals. Most likely a nurse assistant or medical assitant.

2) physician assistant then becomes nurse practitioner

Something doesn't make sense here. Did the girl look like that picture when the nurse saw her and made the stupid comment?

My bet is that is an old pic and Riley put on some lbs since then.

That's what you get when clinics tried to increase their patient numbers, but not hire actual medical doctors instead using nurse practitioners with 1/10 of the training... Peds residency 3 years, nurse practitioner peds rotation 3 months.

So, did the girl see an NP or a PA? I doubt she saw both in one appointment.

Aye but apparently the nurse had something in the chart about her before that appt.

So I guess she jumped expected %s.

In a post shared to the “Moms of Tweens and Teens” Facebook page

So basically this woman wanted some attention from her FB therapy club.

A nurse asking about weight gain (particularly if it is outside of the norm range between checkups) is a perfectly legit question. I seriously doubt she quoted the nurse correctly (“Tell me RILEY, HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN ALL OF THIS WEIGHT YOU’VE GAINED?”). The nurse apparently didn't even comment that the weight gain was a bad thing.

People like this mom just need attention and this mom is probably going to cause her daughter more of a complex making this story go viral than anything a nurse could ever do.

The PA saw her first and then went to the NP and said "hey NP you gotta get a load of this fatty in room 3."

a physical for a 13YO? WTF? I never had a physical till I was in my 30s. Why would you put your kid through that at 13?

We had to get a physical before starting sports in high school.

It probably didn’t happen like that and the mom is an attention whore.
