Yep. They offered a compromise for local residents of $90/month per car, but still, that's over a grand a year, per car, to commute to work (Which many Baldwin County residents do). Pure insanity

If you're too cheap to pay it, take the tunnel like a little bitch.

Causeway, Bankhead Tunnel, and Cochran Bridge out of commission?

No. The plan was to shut down the current I-10 tunnel, and then ADD the same toll to the Causeway Bankhead Tunnel.

That is not correct. Causeway/Bankhead/Africatwon is the free route.
They were going to toll Wallace and the bridge.
ALDOT are idiots.

Over $2B.

3. The project got overinflated for 2 main reasons. A. The DOT claimed the existing bayway had to be torn down and built 10 feet higher due to federal regulations (this was determined to be a lie and was only a suggestion by a 3rd party who advises the govt)

I thought it was $2B for the bridge over the river, and another $2B for the new bayway.

And for Constanza, I too remember vividly, on mid-day Mobile, them talking about tolling every route, so there was no way around getting tolled to cross.

When this first looked like it was going to happen, I was living on the eastern shore and told the wife we need to start buying up land because Baldwin county is going to explode. I still wish I had because it’s growing rapidly, but had the goal happened, it would have squashed growth on that side of the bay.

How many cars were they proposing would cross and pay that toll on a daily basis?

Projected 90,000 by 2040. Half locals paying $90 /mos, other half baws from La. heading to the beach who were going to pitch that $12 photo-toll bill they get by mail into the trash ( just like I do with NOLA photo speeding tix.)

The whole deal started to stink when nobody would show us the money.

1) collection of photo toll fees are basically unenforceable over state lines without reprisosity.
2) see above for photo tickets + 6th amendment violation.

Widening the bayway and eliminating the gridlock of Wallace was a dumb plan?

Somehow toll by plate works in hundreds of locations. But I’m guessing Mobile is different.

No we need a bridge. We just didn’t need that bridge. That project was a giant frick you to the citizens of Mobile/Baldwin county.

Lol what does that even mean?

The bulk of the users?

And every one of y’all ignores the fact that the state wasn’t forcing y’all to take the proposed bridge. There were other options that didn’t cost $12.

I already answered this question earlier in this thread.

Yes by trying to ram through a ridiculously over inflated project. And by tolling the existing already paid for Wallace tunnel.

Link? $2b seems in line with other projects of this scope. Namely the height and length of the bridge and the bayway expansion.

Lolz. I just don’t complain about toll roads.

Y’all want a bridge, but not that bridge, and want the bridge money tree to show up and give you one.

Toll roads are the solution to these traffic issues and y’all can’t handle it.

This is when knowing all the money government waste should piss people off.

If the government had the money that is put out to medicare fraud, it could have money to fund projects that are needed.

The only toll avoidance option was to take the Cochran (Africatown bridge)
That's the only route I take. I haven't been on I-10 across the bay in about 10 years. Causeway is always faster.
