Mobile I-10 bridge project and the proposed $6 toll that went with it is CANCELLED
Posted by Costanza on 8/28/19 at 6:55 pm4248
The Baldwin County "Eastern Shore Metropolitan Planning Organization" voted to remove the project from it's transportation improvement plan, which effectively kills the project (and the proposed $6 per car per trip toll that went with it).
frickING Good.
If you can't afford something, you can't have it. About time our government learned this.

Wait so $12 a day for people who had to commute over it? I would hate paying 240 a mo the just to cross a bridge
Yep. They offered a compromise for local residents of $90/month per car, but still, that's over a grand a year, per car, to commute to work (Which many Baldwin County residents do). Pure insanity.

They could take the old Causeway and tunnel for free baw

They were going to have much lower tolls for commuters.

They just need it without the 25% surcharge for political croneyism and no show jobs.
That's the thing, they were planning to outsource the toll collecting (would love to see who was getting paid off for that/and how much), and they kept adding unnecessary bicycle lanes, etc., that jacked up the price.
There's no doubt that a new bridge is needed, this was a shady, corrupt, over-priced mess.

Nope. They were going to toll those as well as the new bridge. The only toll avoidance option was to take the Cochran (Africatown bridge).

You could have still taken the tunnel if you didn’t want to pay the toll correct?
No. The plan was to shut down the current I-10 tunnel, and then ADD the same toll to the Causeway Bankhead Tunnel.

If this is true, provide a link.

What if it was smooth driving and no traffic in BR.
Would you and the people of BR pay $240 a month for that?
ETA
Guess not.

But that takes you to the Causeway so you would still have to pay the toll to get across the bay(if its true the Causeway was going to be tolled. I hadn't heard that).
But Im glad it's canceled. frick that old hag of a governor. She fricked us on the gas tax and tried to frick us on this toll bridge

AWESOME! I live in Baldwin County, and the people down here have been PISSED about this. Glad to see they fought and won this stupid toll proposal. I use the tunnel a handful of times a year, mainly driving back to Louisiana, but I know a LOT of folks who commute daily.

How many cars were they proposing would cross and pay that toll on a daily basis?
The Crescent City Connection bridge (downtown N.O.) had a toll for about 25-30 years with a charge of $1 per passenger car ($0.80 for toll tag users). That toll brought in $20 million per year.
